Preconstruction Manager - Data Center Developer

London based with travel.

A leader in designing, building, and operating hyperscale data centres across Europe, is seeking a dynamic Preconstruction Manager to join their innovative team. Backed by a major global investment manager, they are expanding digital infrastructure in high-growth and emerging markets.

The Role: As a Preconstruction Manager, you will report to the Preconstruction Director and play a pivotal role in the successful delivery of data centre projects. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and updating comprehensive construction schedules, encompassing key components such as power, permitting, procurement, and construction deliverables for various metropolitan areas.
  • Actively engaging with customers to ensure seamless onboarding processes and site integration.
  • Assisting in defining construction strategies tailored to each metropolitan area.
  • Collaborating with the internal Commercial Team to establish and refine budgets as designs evolve.
  • Onboarding General Contractors, Mechanical & Electrical Contractors, and Equipment Suppliers in each metro area.
  • Developing and continuously updating tender and company requirement documentation.
  • Leading tender processes alongside the Commercial Team and appointing contractors in line with agreed construction strategies.
  • Working closely with external partners, including Joint Venture Partners, Statutory Bodies, Consultants, and Private Landowners, to advance due diligence and preconstruction activities.
  • Collaborating with the internal design team to create safe, sustainable, secure, and cost-effective designs.
  • Traveling to various metropolitan areas to conduct preconstruction activities, onboard and train local Construction Managers, and provide guidance leading up to key construction milestones.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Degree in construction management, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, or seven years of equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant preconstruction or construction experience with industrial or commercial projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage General Contractors and Vendors throughout the full project lifecycle.
  • Proven experience leading contracts valued at €20 million or more.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Seven years of construction experience in the European data centre industry.
  • Experience working with large data centre providers across multiple European metropolitan areas.
  • Proficiency in creating data centre schedules from inception.
  • Experience managing data centre tenders.
  • Expertise in value engineering during the preconstruction phase.
  • A proven track record of creating high-quality, consistent documentation for processes, standards, and procedures.
  • Experience managing site due diligence activities.
  • Ability to deliver projects using Building Information Modelling (BIM) software.

Location: London, with 30% travel across Europe.
