Overview

As a Data Engineer, you'll work with our state-of-the-art customer database and marketing technology infrastructure. Data is at the heart of our business, and we are fortunate to have a wealth of information for our extensive customer database. You'll be designing, implementing, and maintaining our data infrastructure and pipelines, playing a crucial role in enabling data-driven analytics and customer marketing. You'll work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, implement data models, and ensure data accuracy and integrity. Reporting to the Senior CRM & Data Operations Manager, you'll be part of a successful and experienced data engineering team. This role requires a strong data engineering, analytics, and customer marketing background.

We believe that a hybrid, flexible working approach offers you - and your colleagues - the best of both worlds. Face-to-face collaboration is an integral part of our warm, friendly culture, so you'll work from our head office three days a week, working flexibly around our core working hours of 10am-3pm. Beyond that, how, when and where you work is up to you. With a subsidised canteen, free parking and a comfortable, relaxed environment, we've worked hard to build an office you'll want to work in. We also know that, when it comes to school pick-ups and home deliveries, it's nice to have the flexibility to do both.

Responsibilities

  1. Design and Build Data Pipelines: Create and maintain batch, streaming and integration pipelines.
  2. Data Management: Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional and non-functional business requirements.
  3. Process Improvement: Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements, such as automating manual processes and optimizing data delivery.
  4. Data Integration: Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of data from various data sources.
  5. Collaboration: Work with stakeholders including data scientists, analysts, and other team members to support their data infrastructure needs.
  6. Data Quality: Ensure data is clean, reliable and readily available for analysis and reporting.
  7. Maintain data in line with GDPR obligations - housekeeping and deletion of data in line with data retention policy, reporting on user consumption.
  8. Create and maintain documentation to enable data governance.
  9. Management of customer golden record via data entity matching and development of the single customer view models.
  10. Build analytical data models with consideration for performance, usability and scalability.
  11. Build and maintain APIs and micro-services utilising best practice to ensure security and performance.

Qualifications

  1. Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years hands-on experience with big data tools and frameworks.
  2. Technical Skills: Proficiency in SQL with knowledge of Python and other programming languages used in the processing of structured and unstructured data.
  3. Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills and the ability to troubleshoot data-related issues.
  4. Communication: Excellent communication skills to collaborate with various teams and stakeholders.
  5. Experience with data visualisation platforms (Power BI, Tableau, Looker etc)
  6. Knowledge of reporting/BI query languages
  7. Understanding of structured data formats (XML, JSON etc)
