Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Social Worker to join the First Response Team in Harrow. The First Response Team is a frontline service that handles new referrals and provides swift interventions to safeguard children, young people, and families. As a Social Worker in this team, you will play a key role in assessing needs, managing risks, and working collaboratively with other professionals to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and families in the borough.
Key Responsibilities:- Case Management: Respond promptly to new referrals received by the First Response Team. Carry out thorough assessments, including Child and Family Assessments, to identify needs, risks, and required services. Ensure that safeguarding concerns are prioritised and addressed in a timely manner.
- Initial Assessments: Undertake initial assessments and Section 47 child protection investigations in line with statutory guidelines and Harrow's local procedures. Make evidence-based decisions to protect children from harm and ensure their immediate safety. Identify potential risks to children and young people and implement appropriate safeguarding measures. Develop and review Child in Need and Child Protection Plans, working closely with families to reduce risk and improve outcomes.
- Multi-Agency Working: Collaborate with partner agencies, including health services, schools, police, and voluntary organisations, to ensure coordinated support for children and families. Attend and contribute to multi-agency strategy meetings, case conferences, and child protection conferences.
- Court Work: Where necessary, prepare high-quality reports for court proceedings, including initial statements, care plans, and evidence regarding the welfare of children. Attend court hearings and ensure that the legal process supports the safeguarding of children and young people.
- Family & Child Support: Engage effectively with children, families, and carers to build trusting relationships and understand their needs. Empower families to access the support they require to keep children safe and to make positive changes to their circumstances.
- Quality Assurance & Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records, ensuring all work is compliant with statutory requirements, local authority policies, and best practice standards. Participate in audits and quality assurance processes to continually improve service delivery.
- Service Development: Work as part of a dynamic team to contribute to service development and improvements. Share knowledge, skills, and best practice with colleagues to enhance the performance of the First Response Team.
- A recognised Social Work qualification (Degree/Diploma in Social Work, or equivalent) and registration with Social Work England.
- Previous experience in a frontline children's social care team, such as First Response, MASH (Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub), or a similar service. Experience in carrying out assessments, managing child protection cases, and working within statutory frameworks is essential.
- A thorough understanding of UK legislation, statutory guidance, and best practices related to children's social care, including the Children Act 1989, Working Together to Safeguard Children, and Section 47 Child Protection Investigations. Strong communication, assessment, and analytical skills with the ability to make sound judgments under pressure.
- A valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are desirable, as the role may involve travel within the borough. An enhanced DBS check is required for this position.
The First Response Team in Harrow is a highly supportive and fast-paced environment where your skills as a social worker can make an immediate impact. You will work with dedicated professionals committed to safeguarding children and promoting positive outcomes for families.
You will benefit from:
- A competitive salary and benefits package.
- Flexible working options, including hybrid working.
- Ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
- A supportive team environment that values reflective practice and collaboration.
If you are a skilled and passionate social worker, eager to work at the frontline of children's services, we would love to hear from you.
Please note, this job is managed by Sanctuary Personnel on behalf of its client. If you apply, Sanctuary Personnel will receive your details and be in touch to progress your application.
