Controls Engineer / PLC Software Engineer
Location: Telford
Salary: cGBP70k (neg dep exp) + benefits
Our client has been established for almost 20 years and is recognized as a leading provider of all aspects of hardware and software design through to robot systems integration and commissioning on a range of bespoke automation solutions for a diverse range of clients throughout the UK. As a result of continued success and an ongoing program of strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit an experienced Controls Engineer / PLC Software Engineer to complement their highly successful software team.
Responsibilities:
- Manage individual projects at an engineering and client level in line with lead times and standards.
- Develop technical documents in line with client requirements and industry standards using technical features, diagrams, and language.
- Develop bespoke software routines and functions to allow machines/systems to function safely and controlled.
- Implement safety software for systems where safety controllers are used in accordance with BS-EN13849.
- Ensure all systems and bespoke software are correctly tested and quality checked prior to shipping and commissioning.
- Commission bespoke systems both at Head Office and at customer sites within the UK (with occasional overseas visits).
- Work away as required (up to 70% of the year on-site and 30% in the office) with all costs covered by the client.
- Undertake additional training where required and ensure adherence to relevant Health and Safety legislation.
- Comprehensive skills and experience in the use of Siemens TIA portal platform AND/OR Allen Bradley Studio 5000.
- Solid understanding of PLC programming using ladder code, including Functions blocks/add-on instructions, Function calls/routines, and Data blocks (Siemens).
- Proven skills in HMI screen development and experience in on-site commissioning of industrial automation.
- Experience with Conveyor control, Machine interfaces, machine sequential logic, Safety controllers, and Drive configuration and motor control.
- Strong understanding of Profinet, Ethernet, and Profibus industrial communications systems.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) for technical reports and customer-facing interactions.
- Ability to work within a controls team under project management direction.
- Qualified to HND or above in a relevant electrical, electromechanical, or controls qualification.
- At least 3 years previous experience in the above activities.
