We are pleased to be supporting one of the UK's best known and most important charities in its search for an interim Management Accountant to support its research funding area on an initial three-month contract, with a strong possibility of extension. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced (and ideally qualified) accountant with strong Management Accounting skills, who has ideally worked within a research setting previously or at least worked within a commercial environment, closely with non-finance stakeholders. It will pay a daily rate of circa £300/day and be based in the London offices at least a day a week.

The Management Accountant will be responsible for:

  • Preparing accounts and other important reports for several directorates.
  • Reviewing balance sheet variances and assisting the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team and stakeholders with interpreting management information, exploring key variances, and responding to related queries.
  • Working closely with colleagues in assigned areas to support timely and accurate processing of monthly transactions, including accruals, prepayments, revenue recognition, and recharges.
  • Contributing to the refinement of management accounting processes by identifying opportunities for greater efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Assisting with the year-end audit process and supporting the preparation of annual reports and accounts, including drafting notes to the accounts and managing audit queries.
  • Tracking and analysing variances against budget, raising questions where appropriate.
  • Acting as a finance contact for designated business areas, promoting adherence to financial controls while engaging with stakeholders to explore and suggest practical financial solutions.

The ideal Management Accountant will:

  • Have a formal accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent)
  • Have strong experience working with large and data complex sets (ideally within a large and complex organisation)
  • Have strong management accounting and interpersonal skills
