Job Description:

Let's shape the future of nuclear together.

You might know us for the great work we do across our wide variety of projects. We're proud to say it's thanks to our people's diversity of thought, expertise and knowledge. When you join us, you'll be a part of this genuinely collaborative environment, where everyone's voice is valued and treated equally.

We're passionate about what we do, but we don't take ourselves too seriously. Simply put, this a great place to be. So, when it comes to your life outside of work, ask us about our flexible and remote working policies designed to help you get the most out of life.

You are in a prominent position in your current job, with management and governance responsibilities and authority, and a strong expectation on your Safety Leadership competences. There has been an ongoing emphasis in your career on leadership behaviours and encouraging a culture of individual and collective accountability. You have a track record of influencing at a senior level to achieve improvements and make sound decisions when under pressure, comfortable in reaching conclusions based on limited information.

Your purpose:

Your strong influencing skills support an ability to persuade others by working collaboratively and flexibly with all stakeholders, especially those with the authority to support change. You show an appropriate balance of interpersonal sensitivity, self-awareness and assertiveness, carefully choosing your approach to match the situation. These skills are allied with social intelligence, humility, and leadership skills, including being comfortable with giving and receiving advice at all levels within a business, from those delivering operations to senior management at up to (potentially) Board executive levels.

You have a deep and demonstrable understanding of the regulatory framework for a high hazard and/or safety critical industry and a track record in applying or helping others in applying it to facilities and operations and/or proposals for new facilities and activities - that may be UK based or may be another national framework. You are probably of Chartered or Professional Engineer status, possibly at Fellow level, or you have an equivalent previous experience and history of responsibility supported by an appropriate training route and breadth of professional experience. Does this sound like you? In which case, we'd love you to apply for this role.

What you can bring:

  • Can you provide collaborative and supportive advice and leadership to help solve complex permissioning and organizational change issues in a safety critical utility industry?
  • Are you energized by supporting our clients from operational to executive level, in delivering critical national infrastructure capabilities including Carbon Net Zero ambitions?
  • Do you have experience of helping people be a key part of assuring success in both programme and safety delivery, independent of the technology?
  • Do you have experience of leading teams of staff of different skills and levels to deliver complex and evolving objectives?

The people we are looking for will be expected to deliver creative and innovative consultancy advice to existing and new clients who are critical to the success of future energy delivery. We have 2 posts to fill in early 2025, and we know that people of your quality do not come quickly.

The posts are at either Chief Engineer or Principal Engineer level, with reward packages aligned to those roles, and with a differentiator of experience, ambition, and leadership behaviours. The professional delivery context is against the UK's national regulation and licensing regimes, but we are looking for diversity in experience, education, and professional qualification such that who you are is at least as important to us as where you come from. You can expect to be leading teams on complex projects or being engaged with clients' leadership cohorts almost immediately, so you will not lack for interesting challenges.

Why work for AtkinsRéalis?

The UK is the first major economy to legislate for a Net Zero target by 2050. To achieve this, our Energy Teams are ensuring a mix of secure and sustainable energies that can meet our industry and lifestyle demands today, and in 30 years' time. We help to power our world through exciting new technologies and intelligent cybersecurity systems on projects that vary greatly in size, scope, and scale. So, you'll be creating the right safe and resilient systems across nuclear power, renewables, decarbonisation development, new builds and energy efficiency.

We value your diversity and believe that everyone deserves to thrive - no exceptions. You'll be part of a culture committed to finding new talent from underrepresented groups. We're Disability Confident, an Inclusive Employer, and support STEM Returners. We also want to see more women in senior roles at AtkinsRéalis. In the energy sector, we've signed up to the AXIS Pledge, promising to make equal pay, equal leadership, and equal opportunities a reality.

Security clearance:

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary, it will be discussed with you at interview. The vetting process is delivered by United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) and may require candidates to provide proof of residency in the UK of 5 years or longer. If applying to this role please do not make reference to (in conversation) or include in your application or CV, details of any current or previously held security clearance.

We are committed to promoting a diverse and inclusive community - a place where we can all be ourselves, thrive and develop. To help embed inclusion for all, from day one, we offer a range of family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements and employee networks to support staff from different backgrounds. As an Equal Opportunities Employer, we value applications from all backgrounds, cultures and ability.

Worker Type: Employee

Job Type: Regular

At AtkinsRéalis, we seek to hire individuals with diverse characteristics, backgrounds and perspectives. We strongly believe that world-class talent makes no distinctions based on gender, ethnic or national origin, sexual identity and orientation, age, religion or disability, but enriches itself through these differences.
