IP Formalities, Team Leader

This role is accountable for the leadership and management of a pan IP Cross Portfolio team supporting trade mark and patent teams in a variety of formalities activities. The role exists to provide leadership of trade mark and patent professionals ensuring quality, training, and development of a high performing cohesive team with the capability to deliver high-quality support to Intellectual Property.

In this role you will be responsible for

  • Leading and developing a highly skilled team of trade mark and patent professionals providing support to the IP team, delivering a high standard of support and ensuring a cohesive team that is engaged, energised and demonstrates all aspects of GSK Culture.
  • The renewal process for trade marks and patents, ensuring the process is handled optimally, all appropriate rights are maintained, using systems and automation to deliver efficiently.
  • The management of patents and trademark Recordals, running reports to identify rights requiring recordal, obtaining relevant documents, and instructing approved external counsel.
  • Managing requests for domain registrations, transfers, and queries and managing relationships with external partners.
  • Ensuring corporate and general powers of attorney are current and accessible to the IP team, maintaining a central repository and keeping Anaqua organisation records up to date.
  • Ensuring that support activities for the IP team are managed smoothly, including working with our internal teams (GELRT) third party management activities, monitoring mailboxes, deposit account balances and billing queries.

Basic Qualifications & Skills:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Secondary/High school education or equivalent is required.
  • Qualification in trade mark formalities is required e.g. CITMA.
  • Experience working within an Intellectual Property function either in trade mark or patent practice, or as a trade mark or patent paralegal.
  • Strong understanding of trademark laws and procedures is essential.
  • Excellent IT skills (Windows, Excel, Adobe) and ability to use Intellectual Property database management systems. Proficiency in using AQ modules and other relevant software.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

Please note the following skills are not necessary, just preferred, if you do not have them, please still apply:

  • Qualification in patent formalities practice preferred e.g. CIPA.
  • Must be well-organised and able to handle a heavy workload and cope with ever increasing changes, multiple deliverables, and deadlines, while maintaining a calm and professional manner.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with strong capability for problem solving, analysis, judgment, and reasoning.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Decisive, performance and customer driven.
