Expleo is a trusted partner for end-to-end, integrated engineering, quality services and management consulting for digital transformation. We help businesses harness unrelenting technological change to successfully deliver innovations that will help them gain a competitive advantage and improve the everyday lives of people around the globe.
We have a number of exciting ongoing projects with clients across both commercial & naval marine domains and are seeking to expand our existing Naval Architecture capability.
As a Naval Architect, every day at Expleo will be out of the ordinary and will require you to be dynamic and responsive to changes in technology, innovation, and client requirements. You will have the opportunity to get involved in concept surface & sub-surface vessel design, complex engineering design & analysis tasks, the creation of new & innovative tools & processes, the delivery of engineering consultancy services, and the development of decarbonisation solutions & other emerging technologies across a wide range of global maritime programmes.
We will offer successful candidates the opportunity to work in a hybrid arrangement, providing more options to balance their work and personal life whilst ensuring business needs are achieved. Your primary place of work could be one of our three main UK office locations (Bristol, Derby or Preston) and occasional travel to client sites will be required, dependent upon the project.
Key Responsibilities- Apply & continue to develop a breadth of engineering skills, in the discipline of Naval Architecture and where applicable, other related disciplines.
- Define & conduct specific engineering analysis and project management techniques and keep abreast of emerging technologies that could improve the company and/or client processes & outputs.
- Investigate & solve complex technical problems in concept, basic & detailed design phases.
- Develop & maintain written technical and administrative procedures, standards, processes, practices, guidelines, and standards.
- Interface directly with our customers and clients, representing our teams to discuss engineering solutions to complex problems.
- Degree qualified in a relevant STEM discipline (e.g., Naval Architecture, Ship Science, Marine Technology, Marine Engineering), or equivalent experience in the naval and commercial ship design, construction, or maintenance domain.
- Member of a relevant engineering institution (e.g., RINA, IMarEST, IMechE, IET).
- A readiness to grow & develop your technical & behavioural competence to operate at the cutting edge of your discipline.
- The drive to work in a collaborative environment with a natural curiosity and continuous improvement approach, challenging yourself and others to find new solutions.
- An understanding of the role of a Naval Architect and design codes & standards throughout all stages of the equipment lifecycle.
- The motivation to excel and achieve professional recognition, accreditation & progression.
- The successful candidate will ideally have a minimum of 2 years post-graduate experience (6 years for non-degree qualified) working in either the commercial or naval maritime domain.
- Experienced in at least one of the following key technical knowledge areas:
- Hydrostatic, seakeeping & stability analysis.
- Propulsion, resistance, and powering requirements.
- Hydrodynamic & manoeuvring analysis.
- Marine structure design & analysis.
- Ship design; including hull form, superstructure, arrangement & outfitting.
- Experience of using Naval Architecture design & analysis software packages (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, MaxSurf, NAPA, Aveva, Paramarine, Orcaflex, Ansys Structural/Fluent, MatLab, MS Excel).
- Experience of working in small multi-discipline teams with an ability to communicate effectively.
- The post will be based in an environment regulated by Trade Control legislation and involve working with controlled goods, technology and/or services.
- We are interested in engaging with all candidates with the necessary experience; however, it should be noted that naval projects may be subject to initial security considerations (e.g., sole UK nationality and eligible for 'Security Check' (SC) or 'Developed Vetting' (DV) security clearance).
- Collaborative working environment - we stand shoulder to shoulder with our clients and our peers through good times and challenges.
- We empower all passionate technology loving professionals by allowing them to expand their skills and take part in inspiring projects.
- Expleo Academy - enables you to acquire and develop the right skills by delivering a suite of accredited training courses.
- Competitive company benefits.
- Always working as one team, our people are not afraid to think big and challenge the status quo.
- As a Disability Confident Committed Employer we have committed to:
- Ensure our recruitment process is inclusive and accessible.
- Communicating and promoting vacancies.
- Offering an interview to disabled people who meet the minimum criteria for the job.
- Anticipating and providing reasonable adjustments as required.
- Supporting any existing employee who acquires a disability or long term health condition, enabling them to stay in work.
