The Role

Zühlke is internationally recognized for expertise in developing Machine Learning solutions for customers in many different industries. We are investing heavily in global growth in AI & Data. As a Principal Data Scientist at Zühlke, you will play a pivotal role in leading our machine learning initiatives and providing technical leadership for our clients' AI projects. You will serve as a trusted technical expert, guiding development teams and clients toward successful, data-driven solutions that deliver measurable business value.

How You'll Make Impact

  • You will take on the responsibility and technical leadership of customer projects in a wide variety of industries (defining methodological approach, developing use cases with customers, advising customers on technical topics, as well as presenting and explaining results).
  • Thanks to your thought leadership and your passion for Data Science topics, you will inspire our customers for the field of Machine Learning.
  • Supporting pre-sales activities, you will leverage your technical expertise and strong communication skills to understand client needs, contributing to Zühlke's success in winning new business.
  • Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will help deliver scalable Data & AI solutions, products, and services that meet client needs. Facilitating collaboration among experts, you will drive project success and deliver business value.
  • Analysing client use cases, you will assess technical implications and enable well-informed decisions. Planning and leading workshops will be part of your role, guiding clients to ensure the right approach is applied to address their unique challenges.
  • You lead the development of Machine Learning solutions or develop them independently: data preparation, modelling, method selection, evaluation, implementation.
  • You evaluate the technical and business feasibility of solutions, providing sound advice on when machine learning solutions are, and are not appropriate.
  • You understand the complexity of operationalizing prototypes and have solved the cross-functional issues which arise during operationalization.
  • You have broadened your knowledge beyond data science, and are able to give guidance on data management best practices which are required to operationalize data science solutions.
  • You bring your expertise to the Zühlke team and support our juniors in their further development.
  • You represent Zühlke AI & Data in external technical and business forums.

What's Important To Us

  • You have extensive professional experience in the field of Data Science/ Machine Learning. Experience implementing projects in a commercial and enterprise context is desired.
  • You'll have experience delivering project-based work in a consultancy environment or leading a significant innovation/change project within a company.
  • You bring solid and broad knowledge in Machine Learning, in-depth knowledge in multiple application domains (e.g. Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision) and expert knowledge in statistics.
  • You are proficient in the Python Machine Learning stack (NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow/PyTorch), have extensive experience in software development and are skilled with various database systems (relational/NoSQL).
  • You are experienced in delivering projects in at least one of the major cloud providers (AWS/GCP/Azure).
  • During your work operationalizing data science solutions, you have implemented MLOps best practices and understand their value in building sustainable solutions.
  • You have successfully guided data science teams and can demonstrate a track record of mentoring junior data scientists.
  • Thanks to your open and communicative personality, you feel comfortable in interdisciplinary teams and can work in a customer-oriented way, from the idea to the successful implementation of a solution.
  • You have a Master's degree in a STEM subject or a comparable education. A PhD in a machine learning related field is highly desired.
