Workshop Composite Technician

As the nation's flag carrier, we take great pride in connecting Britain with the world and the world with Britain. It's something we've been doing for over 100 years, ever since we launched the world's first international scheduled air service between London and Paris.

Since then, British Airways has gone on to deliver game-changing achievements. First we broke the record for the fastest transatlantic flight with Concorde. Then we became the very first airline to introduce fully lie-flat seats on board. It was our exceptional engineering teams that brought these pioneering and original ideas to life.

This is your chance to join one of the most diverse and innovative departments at British Airways, at a time when we're re-imagining the way we fly the skies.

The role:

The Aircraft Workshop Services team is looking for dynamic proactive Workshop Technicians to work in either the Fleet Support Facility or the Powerplant Support Facility, to support the ever-changing business demands and to provide Engineering Support to our Customers, and ultimately the BA Operation. Your role would be to perform maintenance, repairs and fabrication under supervision. You may also be required to support on-wing tasks in the Base Production Area, or on the Ramp at Heathrow/Gatwick, or at outstations for BA AOG recovery tasks.

You must possess experience working in some of the following skills:

  1. Sheet Metal fabrication – e.g. bending, riveting, welding, heat treating etc.
  2. General Workshop/Hand Skills – e.g. performing simple hand-mechanical tasks such as installing/removing Fasteners, drilling out sheared Fasteners, sanding, cleaning, greasing/lubricating, Painting (brush/roller) etc.

The Fleet Support Facility (FSF) is a unique and bespoke workshop environment, where the team come together to fabricate inventive and complex repair solutions to maintain BA's aircraft to the highest standard. Are you up to the challenge?

If you are successful in the recruitment to become a Workshop Technician in the FSF, you would be expected to perform work in a safe and secure manner, while delivering world-class engineering solutions under supervision, to our customer. You need to possess good Hand Skills and be a confident engineer, a flexible team player, able to multitask, lead by example, to enable you to work within an established team within the Aircraft Workshop Services section.

PLEASE NOTE: there are multiple vacancies. Some positions are Mon-Fri core working hours (typically 7am-3pm) or you may be required to work shifts – current Shift based vacancies work on a 4-on / 4-off 12hr Day Shift rota.

You must already possess the right to Live/Work in the UK – this role is not open to Visa Sponsorship.

  • Component Changes arising from Schedule Maintenance Inspections.

When you work in an engineering role at British Airways, you'll be joining a high-performance culture. It's a time-pressured environment too, but the challenges here are exciting and diverse, and you'll be part of projects you won't find anywhere else. That's what keeps our exceptional colleagues inspired to do their best work. We also offer fantastic rewards, including great staff travel benefits.
