Oxford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom Aurora Energy Research Limited Full time
Technical Product Manager – Chronos

Department: Software Solutions

Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time

Location: Oxford, UK

Reporting To: Head of Product

Description

Chronos helps investors, developers, and utilities navigate complex battery storage investments, directly influencing how storage assets are deployed across global markets. We are looking for a strategic and highly analytical Product Manager to define and execute Chronos' analytic strategy, cementing its position as a market leader in battery storage investment modelling.

As a Product Manager, you will own the roadmap for your product area, focusing on generalised analytical feature development that supports storage asset investment modelling. You will develop a deep understanding of storage sector trends and translate them into actionable product requirements. You will orchestrate the work of cross-functional teams from initial scope definition to implementation and release.

The successful candidate will be a strong first-principle problem solver, translating complex technical-economic considerations to clear and insightful user experiences. The ideal profile will combine strong analytical skills with the intrinsic drive to improve team-based outcomes, from clarifying latent ambiguities to focusing on people development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and execute the analytic strategy for Chronos, prioritising features that drive high-impact insights for storage asset investment.
  • Initially collaborate on and progressively take ownership of the roadmap for analytical feature development, ensuring that Chronos remains best-in-class in battery valuation.
  • Develop a deep understanding of storage sector trends and user needs, translating them into scalable and technically feasible product solutions.
  • Work cross-functionally with modellers, software engineers, and analysts to build features that are both robust and user-friendly.
  • Clarify latent ambiguities in modelling and economic methodologies, ensuring that analytical insights are accurate, interpretable, and actionable.
  • Balance first-principle problem-solving with product development execution, ensuring the team is always aligned on the "why" behind feature development.
  • Mentor and develop Associate Product Managers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and high-quality execution.
What we are looking for

Required attributes:

  • 3+ years of experience in product management, software development, or an analytical strategic role, with demonstrated growth trajectory.
  • Quick, self-directed learner with a proven ability to master complex domains.
  • Proven ability to drive analytical product development, making complex technical concepts accessible and valuable for end users.
  • Strong first-principle problem solver, capable of breaking down complex technical-economic challenges into actionable solutions.
  • Track record of owning high-impact product decisions, balancing strategic priorities with execution.
  • Excellent ability to communicate across technical and non-technical audiences, ensuring clarity in decision-making.
  • Drive to improve team-based outcomes, from aligning diverse stakeholders to supporting people development.

Desirable attributes:

  • Experience working in energy sector software, particularly in power market economics, renewables, or battery storage.
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and user research practices.
  • Experience in a start-up or entrepreneurial setting, demonstrating adaptability and initiative.
What we offer

Some of the benefits we include are:

  • Private Medical Insurance
  • Dental Insurance
  • Parental Support
  • Salary-Exchange Pension
  • Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
  • Local Oxford Discounts
  • Cycle-to-work Scheme
  • Flu Jabs

At AER, we are committed to offering flexibility in the way we work. Most of our roles are hybrid with a mix of in-office/home working and potentially adjustable working hours. Let's discuss what works for you and AER during the interview process.

The Company is committed to the principle that no employee or job applicant shall receive unfavourable treatment on grounds of age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity.
