As a Marine Claims handler with The Hartford you will be responsible for handling claims that occur out of our Marine classes. You will be expected to ensure the proper servicing and settlement of claims within your designated authority. Working in partnership with senior handler / Claims management whilst at all times maintaining the highest standard of technical file handling and customer service.

As a Marine Claims Handler you will:
  1. Report directly to Core Claims Manager.
  2. Receive claims oversight from Technical Claims Manager.
  3. Work in close co-operation with team colleagues.
Job Responsibilities & Competence will include:
  1. Manage, assess and adjust assigned claims, ensuring that coverage is accurately assessed and file reserving is correctly set / maintained.
  2. Proactively manage claim files ensuring all documentation is correctly filed and claims are regularly updated, diarised and managed proactively.
  3. Ensure that claims are handled promptly, fairly and with integrity in accordance with Hartford claims management guidelines.
  4. Work closely with claims management and other team members as required on individual claims.
  5. Receive mentoring and coaching from experienced senior claims handlers / claims management.
  6. Maintain the highest standards of communication with claims management and underwriting to ensure that information on significant claims and claims trends is shared expeditiously.
  7. Ensure that large loss information is shared promptly and that large loss reports are issued appropriately.
  8. Liaise with other departments as appropriate including but not limited to Underwriting; Finance; Actuaries and Reinsurance.
  9. Attend market claim meetings as required.
  10. Liaise with brokers, stakeholders and policyholders as required.
  11. Liaise with other Hartford offices as required.
  12. Assist with reinsurance issues as required.
  13. Ensure compliance with Lloyds minimum standards and all regulatory and statutory requirements relating to claims handling, in particular TCF.

Adhere to any / all Hartford, Regulatory (and any other) set policies / procedures.

Undertake continued Professional Development.

Qualifications and Capabilities:
  1. Relevant Marine claims handling experience.
  2. Working Knowledge of ECF2.
  3. Willingness to continue to develop knowledge of Insurance and related issues through formal and informal learning / exams.
  4. Ability to prioritise and organise workload and meeting deadlines.
  5. Ability to develop and sustain relationships with internal and external customers.
  6. Working knowledge of general insurance and its underlying principles.
  7. Knowledge of FCA / PRA and Lloyd's rules and guidelines.
  8. Progression to CII qualifications desired.
Educational Requirements and Experience:

A level or University degree.
