This role provides a unique chance to shape how MBDA works within the New Product Introduction team on future Pre-DD1 projects.

Salary: Circa £50,000 depending on experience

Dynamic (hybrid) working: 4/5 days per week on-site due to workload classification

As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity:

This opportunity is for a Principal Producibility Engineer to join the Manufacturing organisation to establish robust and effective interface with product design teams to ensure appropriate manufacturing methods, capabilities and techniques are considered and acted upon during the product design phase, for definition and production readiness activities for electrical/electronic weapon systems and sub-systems during prototype and initial development.

  • Evaluate evolving designs in order to identify conflicts with Manufacturing Capability and Capacity
  • Participate in identifying and developing new manufacturing methods in support of evolving designs
  • Carry out investigations into the full range of Design/Make challenges and develop and prepare solutions, individually or as a member of the Producibility and Project Teams
  • Identify the manufacturing implications of emerging designs and undertake any necessary remedial or improvement actions
  • Plan, control and deliver assigned projects or work packages and input as required to cross-functional project investigations, ensuring requirements are delivered to plan
  • Assess any implications of sub-contract delivered items on the overall manufacturing process as required
  • Support the identification of business opportunities and preparation of bids in area(s) of expertise to facilitate the development of high-quality bids.
  • Maintain a high level of expertise in relevant technical areas, develop skills and capabilities to provide effective services, seeking and sharing good practice and knowledge to continuously improve practices, and supply technical support and expertise to others as required
  • Make engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority
  • Support the Manufacturing System Controller during the development phase of a programme
  • Identify risk and develop aversion strategies associated with evolving design and proposed manufacturing methodologies
  • Support in-house and supplier design reviews as required
  • Support Development Hardware manufacture as required
  • Actively support and contribute to all industrial validation activities
  • You will be working with a small multi-disciplinary team of dedicated engineers in a fast-paced but friendly and inclusive manufacturing environment. The team has a great mix of personnel all striving to meet the challenge of delivering the manufacturing test architecture and industrial capability for NPI programmes.

What we're looking for from you:

  • Degree/HNC/HND level of qualifications or equivalent in an engineering discipline plus substantial level of experience of aerospace/defence or related industry
  • Hands-on experience of manufacturing methods and processes
  • Experience in working within a Concurrent Engineering environment
  • Experience in monitoring manufacturing costs during development programs
  • Forward thinking and comfortable in working outside their area of specialisation
  • Good negotiating and influencing skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Capable of working well within multinational teams
