London, Greater London, United Kingdom VertoFX Ltd Full time

This job is brought to you by Jobs/Redefined, the UK's leading over-50s age inclusive jobs board.

At Verto, we're passionate about helping businesses in Emerging markets reach the world. What first started life as a FX solution for trading Nigerian Naira has now become a market-leading platform, changing the way thousands of businesses transfer money in and out of Emerging Markets.

We believe that where you do business shouldn't determine how successful you are, or your ability to scale. Millions of companies a day have to juggle long settlement periods, high transaction fees and issues accessing liquidity in order to trade with African businesses. We're on a mission to change this by creating equal access to easy payment and liquidity solutions that are already a given in developed markets.

We're not alone in realising the opportunity and need to solve for emerging markets. We're backed by world-class investors including Y-Combinator, Quona and MEVP, power payments for some of the most disruptive start-ups in the world and have a list of accolades from leading publications including being voted 'Fintech Start Up of the Year' at Fintech Awards London 2022.

Each year we process billions of dollars of payments and provide companies with solutions which help them to save money, automate processes and grow, but we're only just getting started.

We are seeking a Reconciliation Manager to own the full reconciliation process and to develop its efficiency and effectiveness. This is a critical role in the organisation and will take a dedicated individual to use their experience to improve it. The role will involve building and improving processes around:

  • Gathering data from our multiple banking partners, some of which are not feeding the data automatically to the reconciliation software
  • Analysing and matching of transactions
  • Investigating discrepancies and breaks
  • Eliminating and preventing such breaks

You will also work on projects to improve automation and efficiency.

This role will work very closely with our payments team, trading team and middle office function. Teams are based in Kenya, UK and India.

In this role you will:

  • Use your past experience to build and improve our existing reconciliation processes.
  • Manage a team of reconciliation analysts.
  • Oversee the end-to-end reconciliation framework, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in all stages.
  • Investigate discrepancies and breaks in reconciliations, taking corrective operations or product led actions to resolve and prevent future issues.
  • Develop and implement process improvements to enhance automation and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate on cross-functional projects aimed at optimising the reconciliation process and integrating new systems or tools.

You will be responsible for:

  • Managing the full reconciliation process, including data gathering, analysis, and matching of transactions.
  • Identifying and minimising the among of discrepancies, breaks, and variances in financial transactions.
  • Developing and implementing solutions to resolve reconciliation issues and prevent recurrence.
  • Enhancing the efficiency of the reconciliation process through automation and system improvements.
  • Collaborating with internal teams and external banking partners to ensure seamless and accurate financial reporting.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in reconciliation, financial analysis, or a related accounting function, preferably within the fintech, financial services, or payments industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, investigate, and resolve complex reconciliation discrepancies.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, including collaborating effectively with cross-functional and international teams.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with process improvement and automation.
  • Proven leadership skills and experience in managing and mentoring a team.
  • Knowledge of payment processing, FX transactions, and emerging markets is required.
