Mortgages Integration Data Lead

You will be an integration data lead for all initiatives in the integration space for Mortgages supporting strategic roadmap, reliability, best practice adoption and resilience. This role is within our Mortgages CIO function under MTD (Member Technology Delivery), part of the wider COO organisation, which is responsible for delivering IT solutions which have our customers and colleagues at heart.
You will be accountable for end-to-end delivery of the agreed roadmap that supports our Data Integration and Migration Strategy. You will work closely with Principal engineers and the architecture team to provide thought leadership to our Engineering teams.
As a Lead Engineer you will ensure our systems and platforms are designed, developed and tested in a resilient and secure manner, aligned to strategy, ensuring we're applying good engineering practices and principles. This role is within The Mortgages CIO function. Mortgages are primarily provided via brokers, through our online and API channel. We are actively expanding our propositions in both Home and Landlord spaces as part of the integration.
This role will drive a culture of continuous improvement, with a focus on building technical capability (including people) across all disciplines. Across MTD, we have an important journey ahead of us to build and maintain our position in the market and respond to changing customer needs, guided by the strategic pillars of More Rewarding Relationship, Simply Brilliant Service and Focused, Fit and Fast. This is a pivotal role within the MTD Engineering team, who rely on this role for support in planning and strategic thinking to drive forward the delivery agenda.

What you'll be doing- Lead and take responsibility of data migration strategy in the mortgages area for the integration programme with a potential to expand the team.
- You will be expected to take accountability for the lifecycle of the data engineering function within the Mortgages area, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide leadership and mentoring to technical teams, guiding them on engineering principles, design patterns, and implementation techniques.
- Lead the ongoing evolution of the Data engineering capability, to ensure that it continuously improves and can meet the ongoing needs of the Society.
- Involved in creating technical design documents from the functional specification documents.
- Play a key role in Data discovery from the integration and migration perspective.
- Provide technology and architectural leadership, strategic direction and long-term vision for VM integration.
- Provide guidance and direction to a team of engineers to create fit for purpose artefacts, that meet requirements of the organisation and fit the technology strategy.
- Provide technical expertise at parts and/or all stages of the delivery lifecycle, including providing technical leadership and consultancy to stakeholders.
- Participate in strategic planning, architectural decisions and collaboration opportunities related to Virgin Money integration.
- People manage and nurture a team of engineers to build a strong and high performing team.
- Organise the work of the team relying on technical knowledge to create efficiencies and give appropriate direction.
We need somebody with:
- Hands-on experience and working knowledge on data systems, Extract-Transform-Load tools, and data engineering.
- Extensive experience in Banking and financial industry working across products including mortgages or other lending products.
- Prior experience of delivery in Customer master systems, data migration strategy, secure/ unsecure lending applications, large modernisation programmes, cloud migration and hyper scalar systems.
- Experience of leading data integration or data modelling for integration/ migration strategy across organizations in the merger or acquisition scenario is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated experience in adopting and implementing emerging technologies with a mix of both on-prem and cloud solutions.
- You will have a career background that has evolved through a technical discipline (preferably through implementation and design) in the Data and ETL (Extract-Transform-Load) space towards a leadership role. You will demonstrably have the confidence to make decisions and the humility to change course when needed.
- Deep applied and proven experience in leading complex transformation programmes within a highly regulated environment, preferably in the financial services or banking sector.
- You'll be a constant learner, open to new ideas and new ways of doing things.
