Job DescriptionAs an Engineering Technician within the Test and Validation department, you will use your practical, hands-on skills and expertise to set-up and operates our rigs, executing tests on a wide range of car components and assemblies.You will support the calibration and maintenance of our test capability and provide first line of support to keep our rigs operating.You will help to support and develop Technicians and Apprentices, by providing on-task guidance.Main Duties: Provide skilled, practical support to the Test Engineers for all component and sub-assembly test activities on a wide variety of platforms including HiL transmission and VTT dyno, brake dyno, eight-post rig, fuel, cooling, and structural test rigs. Ensure that control software, data acquisition systems, instruments, and actuators are configured and calibrated correctly prior to performing any tests. To carry out routine maintenance of test rigs identify potential issues and support the development of pre-emptive maintenance. Work to standards set by Test Engineering, ensuring data analysis and reporting standards are upheld, and signed-off prior to release. To ensure that predefined test procedures are upheld, and tests are performed in a safe manner. Write and follow standard operating procedures to ensure consistency and quality or our deliverables. Provide guidance and assist with the development of Technicians and ApprenticesContribute to the design, development, and operational requirements of our test capability, in collaboration with the Test Engineers and key stakeholders from around the business. Be proactive in maintaining the highest levels of safety and contribute towards a culture of safety. Core Competencies: Extensive practical knowledge and understanding of vehicle and/or powertrain systems and testing; assembly, operation, maintenance, and repair. Familiar with specialist technical and practical skills, tools and methods that are employed in the preparation of vehicle components and sub-systems for testing. Good understanding of instrumentation and actuators used on-vehicle and in the test environment, including best practices for application, handling, and calibration. Demonstrate high level of competence in the operation of test rigs and facilities. Able to interpret test data and ensure test objectives are met. Able to identify common problems in vehicle and test systems and use technical knowledge to find root cause. Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills. Qualifications and Experience Level: Extensive experience working in an R&D environment, supporting the execution of vehicle or powertrain testing and validation, ideally in Formula One. Extensive practical engineering skills and knowledge in the preparation and operation of vehicles and test rigsExperience operating complex test facilities, interpreting data and fault finding. Relevant technical qualifications to Level 5, or level 3 with strong evidence of vocational development equivalent to level 5Previous supervisory or technical responsibility is desirable.
