Wembley, United Kingdom Philosophy Education Full time
  • Teaching and Learning Lead (SEND)
    • Specialist SEMH Therapeutic School
    • Location: Wembley
    • Contract: Maternity Cover (Feb/March 2025 – Oct 2025)
    • Full-Time
    • Salary: £46,500 - £56,000

Are you a passionate and experienced SEND Teacher with a deep understanding of SEND and SEMH? Do you thrive in a leadership role where you can make a real difference to children's lives? If so, this could be the perfect opportunity for you

About the Role
A small, Specialist SEMH Therapeutic School in Wembley is looking for an exceptional Teaching and Learning Lead (SEND) to join their team from February/March 2025. This leadership role focuses on supporting class teachers in delivering high-quality teaching and learning tailored to SEND needs, with a particular emphasis on Autism, Global Developmental Delay, non-verbal communication, and ADHD.

Working closely with the SENCO/Inclusion Lead and Head Teacher, you will guide and develop teaching practices to ensure children with SEND receive the tailored support they need to thrive. While SEMH remains an important aspect, your primary focus will be driving improvements in SEND provision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership and Development: Provide support and guidance to staff, identify CPD needs, deliver SEND-focused training, and contribute to recruitment and staff well-being.
  • Curriculum and Teaching: Lead the delivery of a creative and inclusive curriculum, manage timetables, teach weekly, and ensure outcomes for children with SEND are maximized.
  • Parent and External Engagement: Build strong partnerships with families and work collaboratively with external professionals to support pupils and their families.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Track pupil progress, evaluate the effectiveness of SEND provision, and contribute to the school's self-evaluation framework.

About the School
This independent special school in Wembley is part of a larger charity trust supporting children with special educational needs. The school provides a multi-disciplinary, nurturing, and therapeutic environment where children can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Using an imaginative and innovative curriculum, the school creates opportunities for children to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

Conveniently located near Wembley Central underground station and Alperton overground station, the school is easily accessible by public transport. On-site parking and nearby street parking are also available.

Person Specification
Essential:

  • A recognised teaching qualification (QTS).
  • Significant experience teaching children with SEND and SEMH needs.
  • Strong knowledge of SEND provision and current educational developments.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Desirable:

  • Leadership or management qualifications.
  • Relevant SEND qualifications.
  • Experience with trauma-informed practices, such as the Berry Street Model.

Why apply?
This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead, innovate, and directly impact the lives of children with SEND and SEMH needs. You'll work in a supportive and collaborative team dedicated to making a lasting difference in a specialist school environment.

How to Apply
To apply, please submit an up-to-date CV outlining your experience and skills. Shortlisted applicants will be required to complete full registration with Philosophy Education and submit a school application form before the interview.

We have a policy to respond to all applications within three working days. However, because of the volume of applications, we are sometimes unable to reply to individual enquiries.
