Corporate Health & Safety Manager Location: Fixed base – Gun Wharf (with travel to other client locations as required) The Role Our client is recruiting a Corporate Health & Safety Manager to act as the organisation’s competent person and subject matter expert in Occupational Health & Safety. This is a key strategic role, ensuring the organisation meets its legal obligations while embedding a strong culture of health and safety awareness, compliance and continuous improvement. The postholder will lead on the development and implementation of safe systems of work, strengthen the profile of Occupational Health & Safety across the organisation, and minimise the occurrence of accidents and incidents, including reportable events. Key Responsibilities - Act as the organisation’s competent person to ensure compliance with all health and safety legislation and best practice. - Ensure safe systems of work are in place across all service areas. - Promote a positive health and safety culture that focuses on prevention, compliance and continuous improvement. - Develop and maintain corporate Occupational Health & Safety policies, procedures and guidance using up-to-date legislative knowledge. - Design and deliver bespoke health and safety training for employees and managers, working closely with HR colleagues. - Manage, analyse and report on occupational health and safety data, including accidents and incidents, using insights to support decision-making and continuous improvement. - Develop and maintain effective systems and procedures that enable employees at all levels to understand and fulfil their health and safety responsibilities. - Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders in a way that reflects organisational values and behaviours. - Contribute to service planning objectives and performance targets. Corporate Responsibilities - Maintain up-to-date knowledge of GDPR responsibilities and complete mandatory refresher training. - Act in a way that safeguards the health and wellbeing of children and vulnerable adults, recognising that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. - Fulfil responsibilities as a corporate parent, supporting the wellbeing and positive outcomes of care-experienced children and young people. - Participate in the performance appraisal process and contribute to personal and team development through the Career Progression Framework. - Work in accordance with the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duty, promoting equality of opportunity and fostering good relations. - Ensure full compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, the organisation’s Health and Safety Policy and locally agreed safe methods of work. - Understand and support the duty under Section 17 of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 to help prevent crime and disorder. - Support the organisation’s commitment to becoming carbon neutral by 2050 and contributing to climate emergency action plans. Emergency Response Our client is a Category One responder under the Civil Contingencies Act (2004). All staff may be required to support emergency response arrangements, including undertaking duties in a major civil incident or standing in for colleagues where required.Health & Safety.
