Senior / Principal Civil Engineer – Infrastructure (Highways & Drainage)Guildford | Hybrid | £55k–£65k + benefits A growing transport & infrastructure consultancy in Guildford is seeking a Senior or Principal Civil Engineer to help deliver development-infrastructure projects across the South East. This role suits someone who can take ownership of design work, manage projects, and support junior engineers—while working in a collaborative, high-performing team environment. The RoleDesign of highways, access, junctions and public realm schemesSurface water & foul drainage strategies (SuDS, attenuation, greenfield runoff)Detailed modelling using Civil 3D and InfoDrainage/MicroDrainageS278/S38 highway works and S104/S106/S185 drainage applicationsCut & fill, external levels, utilities and site-wide infrastructure designSupporting planning submissions with technical reports and drawingsManaging programmes, budgets, clients and design deliverablesProviding technical review, guidance and mentoring to junior engineersWorking closely with transport planning and external project teams Requirements5–12+ years’ experience in civil engineering / development infrastructureStrong technical capability in Civil 3D and InfoDrainage/MicroDrainageSolid understanding of S278, S38, S104, S106 and S185 processesExperience delivering residential, commercial or mixed-use schemesAbility to take the lead on design packages with minimal supervisionComfortable managing clients, deadlines and project deliveryStrong written and verbal communication, including report writingChartered or working towards chartership beneficial (ICE/CIHT) Why JoinModern, growing consultancy with a strong project pipelineHybrid working model (typically 2–3 days in office)Clear progression path towards Principal/Associate rolesSupport for professional development and chartershipFriendly, collaborative engineering & transport planning teamAutonomy and trust to shape projects and mentor others Package£55k–£65k depending on experienceHybrid workingPension, professional memberships and flexible benefitsClear career development framework
