This role is designed for graduates who want to gain frontline experience working with pupils who may be on the periphery of the youth justice system. Join a specialist SEMH and SEN provision in Slough supporting young people who are neurodivergent, at risk of school exclusion, or vulnerable to unsafe peer groups and exploitation. You will provide consistency, boundaries, and positive role-modelling to help students make safer decisions and build a future free from crime. Aspiring Criminal Justice Officer – Learning Support Assistant Slough – Education and Training Aspiring Criminal Justice Officer – Learning Support Assistant Slough As a Learning Support Assistant, you will: Support students with additional needs including autism, SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health), PDA, and speech & language communication differences. Work with pupils who may be at risk of knife crime involvement, exploitation, or gang affiliation. Use restorative and trauma-informed approaches to build trust, emotional regulation, and resilience. Help students develop safer peer relationships and strengthen decision-making skills. Be a calm, reliable adult who champions safeguarding and early intervention. This role is ideal for graduates pursuing careers in: Youth Justice / Probation and Rehabilitation Services Knife Crime & Gang Intervention / Early Intervention Teams Social Work, Youth Work, Family Support Criminology / Behavioural or Educational Psychology Prison, Court, or Community Outreach Services Your Responsibilities Will Include: Delivering 1:1 and small-group support to students with SEN, SEMH, and autism. Assisting with behaviour regulation strategies tailored to individual needs. Reinforcing personalised learning plans focused on emotional literacy, boundaries, and safe conflict resolution. Coaching pupils on skills that reduce risk—such as emotional control, social problem-solving, and understanding consequences. Working collaboratively with safeguarding leads, teachers, and external agencies to track progress and monitor risk indicators. Receiving full training in de-escalation, restorative practice, and trauma-informed strategies. Who We’re Looking For: Graduates in Criminology, Psychology, Education, Sociology, Social Sciences, or related fields. Compassionate communicators passionate about reducing youth violence and supporting vulnerable young people. Individuals who believe in early intervention, second chances, and rehabilitation. Previous experience with youth work, mentoring, sports coaching, or outreach is beneficial but not essential. What You’ll Need: A proactive and calm approach, with the ability to build rapport quickly. A commitment to relational, restorative practice — not punitive discipline.
