Mechanical Engineering Technician Belfast 36.25 hours a week £19.11 per hour MAIN PURPOSE To work as a Mechanical Engineering technician as part of the Fleet Mechanical & Engineering teams within the three regional workshops to ensure service delivery of all specialist operational equipment and vehicles is met at all times.The Mechanical Engineering Technician (MET) is responsible for the Inspection, diagnostics, planned maintenance, emergency repair, bodywork, Coach building and modification to all vehicles and equipment within the NIFRS fleet of Vehicles and Operational equipment. The MET will be expected to work across differing trade disciplines in carrying out their role.To participate in the Regional Standby Rota to facilitate an effective support network to ensure operational resilience is maintained out of hours. This involves carrying out the emergency repair of vehicles and equipment and vehicle recovery for operational incidents on a 24/7 basis. Asset and Services Management1. Responsible for the repair, maintenance, modification and servicing of all NIFRS emergency response fire vehicles and supporting equipment to standards defined in legislation and best practice.2. Responsible for diagnosis of faults, carrying out repairs and in depth overhauls on a wide range of specialist vehicles, operational equipment and components.3. To assist other trades within Fleet & Engineering services and the communication departments, where their skill set is more applicable to affect that repair, including all operational equipment.4. To participate in the Regional Engineering on call Rota to facilitate an effective support network to ensure operational resilience is maintained out of hours. Whilst on call the MET will be expected to make all repair decisions unsupervised on all aspects of the vehicle and equipment repair Essential1. Possess a certified level 3 trade qualification as depicted in the NQF in Vehicle Repair and Maintenance.AndHave at least two years’ post apprentice experience working in a trade role in their area of expertise which includes heavy vehicle.2. Must demonstrate experience in plant mechanics and light vehicle repair.3. Level 3 qualification as depicted in the NQF in vehicle system repair and replacement in Electric/Hybrid Vehicles.4. Qualified to safely install, maintain and fault find both 240v and 110v electrical systems on vehicles and equipment.5. Must demonstrate excellent record keeping of computerised repair and inspection data6. Competent in the use of IT software and computer systems.7. Competent in the use of a Management Information System (MIS) for recordkeeping on repair data.8. Possess a current UK C Class driving licence. Additional requirements:1. Applicant must participate in the Regional Engineering on call Rota which involves working antisocial hours including weekends and late nights in order to support emergency response operations.2.
