Behaviour Support Assistant – South Shields Full-Time | Long-Term | September StartAre you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs? Do you have the resilience and empathy to support pupils who may display challenging behaviour?Protocol Education is working closely with a welcoming and inclusive SEND school in South Shields that supports pupils aged 5–16 with SEMH needs, autism and associated learning difficulties. We are seeking a Behaviour Support Assistant to join their dedicated team and provide one-to-one and small group support both in and out of the classroom.The Role: Supporting pupils with SEMH needs to access learning in a safe and structured environment De-escalating challenging behaviours using trauma-informed and restorative approaches Helping pupils to develop social skills, emotional regulation, and positive relationships Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff and other professionals to ensure consistent support Contributing to behaviour plans, daily reports and team meetings The Ideal Candidate: Experience working with young people with challenging behaviour, SEMH, autism or trauma A calm, patient and consistent approach to behaviour support Excellent communication and teamwork skills Able to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils Relevant training ( Team Teach, MAPA, or positive handling) is desirable but not essential What We Offer: Competitive rates of pay Ongoing training and professional development A dedicated consultant to support you throughout your placement Opportunities to gain permanent roles within SEND settings If you’re ready to make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable young people in South Shields, apply today or contact us to find out moreAll applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role.
