If you're tired of having your technical judgement second-guessed, this role offers the trust and autonomy you deserve.You'll be the trusted advisor to senior leadership and the Audit Committee, owning the narrative on technical accounting positions and ensuring the business maintains best-in-class reporting standards.What You'll Be DoingTechnical Authority & Decision-MakingOwn the technical accounting agenda - you'll consult, conclude, and communicate positions on complex IFRS mattersAuthor technical position papers and memoranda for executive leadership and Audit Committee consumptionEstablish and maintain the definitive source of accounting policy documentation across the groupProvide real-time technical consultancy to business units, finance teams, and commercial stakeholdersAudit & External Reporting LeadershipLead technical dialogue with external auditors - you'll be their primary technical contactDrive resolution on complex accounting positions, defending and articulating technical conclusionsOwn critical annual processes including impairment testing frameworks and going concern assessmentsStandards Implementation & AdvisoryLead implementation of emerging standards with particular focus on sustainability reporting (IFRS S1/S2, CSRD)Assess business impact of new pronouncements and guide implementation roadmapsProvide technical accounting oversight on M&A, restructuring, and major commercial contractsKnowledge LeadershipDevelop technical capability across the finance community through training and knowledge-sharingElevate the technical sophistication of the wider team through coaching and mentorshipManage and develop a qualified accountant within your functionWhat We're Looking ForEssential Experience:ACA qualified from a Top 10 firm (CIMA ACA considered with demonstrable listed/large corporate experience)Significant technical accounting experience within a listed company, large corporate group, or Big 4 advisoryProven IFRS implementation experience - you've been hands-on with lease accounting at scaleManagement experience - you've led people and influenced senior stakeholdersTrack record of leading audit relationships and negotiating technical positions with external auditorsExperience writing technical accounting papers, position memos, and Audit Committee materialsThe Right Profile:You've worked in environments where technical rigour matters - listed entities, PE-backed platforms, or complex group structuresYou're intellectually confident - comfortable taking a position and defending it to auditors and senior managementYou're a natural communicator who can make the complex simple without dumbing it downYou want genuine autonomy and the opportunity to shape technical accounting strategyYou're ambitious but pragmatic - commercial awareness balanced with technical excellenceWhat's On OfferBase salary circa £100,00025% performance bonusHybrid working arrangement with excellent Hertfordshire office baseGenuine career progression opportunities within a large, ambitious organisationThe chance to work on genuinely complex technical accounting challengesAutonomy and trust from day oneNext StepsThis role will move quickly.
