To provide high-quality teaching, support, and intervention for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The SEN Teacher ensures all pupils can access the curriculum, make progress, and develop social, emotional, and communication skills within a safe, inclusive environment.Key Responsibilities 1. Teaching & Learning Plan and deliver differentiated lessons tailored to the individual needs of pupils with SEND. Develop and implement personalised learning plans, including Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour support plans. Use a range of teaching methods and resources to support learning (visual, auditory, kinaesthetic, multisensory). Adapt curriculum materials to ensure accessibility for pupils with varying needs. Track and assess pupil progress, adjusting instruction based on ongoing assessments. 2. SEND Support & Intervention Provide targeted 1:1 and small-group interventions for pupils with learning difficulties, SEMH needs, autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, or other SEND. Implement EHCP (Education, Health & Care Plan) outcomes and monitor progress. Use evidence-based strategies to support communication, emotional regulation, social skills, and behaviour. Support pupils in developing independence, resilience, and confidence. 3. Collaboration & Communication Work closely with the SENCO to ensure effective support for all pupils on the SEND register. Communicate regularly with parents/carers regarding pupil progress, challenges, and achievements. Liaise with external professionals such as Educational Psychologists, Speech & Language Therapists, and occupational therapists. Collaborate with class teachers and teaching assistants to plan and deliver inclusive provision across the school. 4. Classroom Management & Safeguarding Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment. Follow safeguarding policies and procedures at all times. Support behaviour management strategies that promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing. Ensure pupils’ physical, emotional, and wellbeing needs are met during the school day. 5. Professional Development Participate in ongoing training related to SEND, safeguarding, and curriculum development. Reflect on teaching practice and contribute to whole-school improvement. Stay informed about current SEND legislation, guidance, and best practice. Person Specification Essential Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Experience working with primary-aged children. Strong understanding of SEND and inclusive teaching strategies. Ability to differentiate effectively and manage individual learning needs. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Desirable Additional qualification or training in SEN (, NASENCo, autism training, SEMH training). Experience using Thrive, TEACCH, PECs, Makaton, or similar frameworks. Experience supporting pupils with complex needs or EHCPs.
