A nurturing and well-resourced specialist school in Durham is looking to appoint a compassionate and reliable Care Support Assistant. This role is ideal for someone with experience in care, support work, SEN settings, or anyone passionate about helping vulnerable young people thrive in a structured, supportive environment. About the Role As a Care Support Assistant, you will play an essential part in the daily life of students with a range of needs, including: Autism and communication differences Moderate to severe learning difficulties Physical or sensory needs Social, emotional and mental health needs You’ll work alongside teaching staff, therapists and pastoral teams to ensure pupils feel safe, supported and ready to learn.Your responsibilities will include: Providing consistent care, emotional support and reassurance Supporting students with personal care (where required) Encouraging independence, confidence and social interaction Assisting pupils throughout the school day, including during lessons and transitions Implementing personalised support plans and behaviour strategies Maintaining a calm, patient and positive presence Promoting safeguarding and wellbeing at all times What We’re Looking For Experience in care, support work, youth work or similar roles A patient, kind and proactive approach Confidence supporting children or young people with additional needs Ability to build strong, trusting relationships Good communication skills and a team-focused attitude A commitment to safeguarding and professional boundaries A DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply Whether your background is in residential care, community support, health and social care or SEND education, your skills will be highly valued.
