Job Description
Under limited direction this position will lead the Aboriginal Engagement and Heritage Unit (AEHU), establishing priorities, targets, and works programs to achieve unit objectives. Key responsibilities include:
Guiding the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the department's policies and guidelines relating to Aboriginal culture and heritage, and engagement with Aboriginal people.
Coordinating the development of cultural competency and capacity through the development and implementation of a suite of programs, training and resources, including delivery where required.
Selection Criteria
Applicants should address the following five (5) criteria. These should be addressed in no more than four (4) pages in total.
Demonstrated capacity to interpret legislation and develop policies and guidelines relating to Aboriginal culture and heritage, and engagement with Aboriginal people.
High-level interpersonal skills, with extensive experience in communicating, liaising and negotiating complex issues at a range of levels.
Proven ability to lead and manage a professional team, including the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary projects, prepare and monitor works programs, budgets and timeframes to achieve objectives within designated timeframes.
Aboriginality – Under Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984, Aboriginality is a genuine occupational requirement for this position.
Note: The successful applicant will be required to possess or obtain a current (issue date not older than 6 months) and satisfactory National Police Check prior to commencement.
