Chef / School Cook

JOB OVERVIEWWe have a fantastic new job opportunity for a happy and positive Chef / School Cook with previous experience in a kitchen or catering environment, preparing nutritious meals on a large scale and good understanding of food allergens and healthy eating standards. As the Chef / School Cook you will work under the direction of the Catering Manager. You will be preparing, cooking and serving food and drink to students and staff. In addition, the Chef / School Cook will be required to prepare and dismantle eating areas and carry out cleaning duties whilst maintaining high quality standards of health, hygiene and safety. DUTIES Prepare the required number of food products, following specified menus/special dietary requirements Ensure portion control, dietary requirements and nutritional standards are met Prepare cooking ingredients Cook food ensuring all meals are ready on time Bake cakes, biscuits and puddings Label and bag cakes as required Prepare money for banking Ensure kitchen equipment is used, cleaned and maintained correctly Report equipment repairs and maintenance needs to the Chef/ Kitchen Manager Ensure all food is served with the correct tools and is well presented Oversee the day to day support and supervision of kitchen staff Ensure that food safety and hygiene standards are maintained in the kitchen at all times Operate tills and cashless card system, following strict guidelines Within strict time limitation, assist with setting up the required number of tables, chairs bins and water jugs for service periods within the designated eating areas Assist with washing up all eating utensils and equipment, sterilising where required, following set guidelines Complete cleaning duties, following daily and weekly rotas, to ensure health and safety and hygiene standards are maintained Put away daily/weekly/fortnightly deliveries ensuring correct stock rotation and quality control guidelines CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (minimum) Allergen awareness training Experience working in a kitchen or catering environment Experience preparing nutritious meals on a large scale (preferably in a school or similar setting) Understanding of healthy eating standards, especially for children Knowledge of food safety regulations and procedures Awareness of safeguarding and food allergens Ability to plan menus in line with school nutrition guidelines Strong organisational and time management skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Good communication skills with both children and staff Reliable and punctual Friendly, approachable, and positive attitude Flexibility and willingness to adapt Commitment to child welfare and school values BENEFITS Friendly and sociable colleagues Staff membership rates to the modern Leisure Centre Enrolment in one of the UK’s Largest public sector pension schemes A tax efficient Cycle-to-Work scheme through salary sacrifice The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
