Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer Salary: £38,000 - £45,000 Location: Gateshead About the RoleYou will be responsible for creating detailed electrical designs, developing schematics and drawings, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and codes. Working closely with senior engineers and the wider design team, you will contribute to projects across retail, education, healthcare, residential and commercial sectors.This is an office-based role with opportunities to attend site inspections and liaise with clients, contractors and suppliers. You will gain practical experience across the full design process, from concept through to detailed design and installation support. Key ResponsibilitiesProduce high-quality electrical drawings and technical documentation under the supervision of senior engineersDesign LV supply and small power distribution, earthing and lightning protection, lighting, fire and voice alarm systems, data services, low current and extra low voltage services, automatic controls, access control/security, BMS and other related electrical utility systemsPrepare electrical design calculations, specifications, schedules and tender documentsAttend design team meetings and site inspectionsLiaise with clients, contractors, suppliers and other designers to ensure coordination and complianceApply and enhance design and technical knowledge to deliver high-quality project outputsThe Ideal CandidateHNC, HND, Degree or equivalent certified Electrical EngineerIdeally 1 year or more post-graduate experience in a building services consultancy or relevant engineering businessKnowledge of electrical building services (HV/LV Power, Lighting, Emergency Lighting, Lighting Control, Fire Alarms, Communication Systems, Lightning Protection, Security and Access Control)Proficient in AutoCAD; Revit experience desirable but not essentialExperience with Relux, Dialux or Amtech desirable but not essentialUnderstanding of current wiring regulations and industry standardsAffiliation with recognised professional bodies desirable but not essentialStrong communication skills and willingness to work collaboratively in a team environment BenefitsCompetitive salary, dependent on experienceThree-month probation salary review and annual review thereafterPrivate healthcarePension scheme and death in service benefit23–24 days annual leave with short day FridaysSupport for professional development and qualificationsOpportunity to work in a small, supportive, collaborative teamExposure to a variety of technically interesting projects across multiple sectorsIf you are an ambitious Electrical Design Engineer seeking to develop your technical skills and work on a wide range of building services projects within a close-knit and supportive team, this is an excellent opportunity to join a respected MEP consultancy in Gateshead.
