I have been assigned by an NHS Trust in the UK to help them recruit a Consultant in Anaesthetics & ITU on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months.Our client's Department of Anaesthesia is based on the first floor, adjacent to the operating theatres, the secretarial support for the department can be found in this office. Intensive care unit is located in the fourth floor providing Level 2 and 3 care. ICU supports anaesthetic services for elective and emergency surgeries. Critical Care Directorate office is locate alongside intensive care unit. All offices are equipped with modern facilities. The operating theatres have rest rooms and a seminar room, which are shared by nursing and medical staff. Anaesthetics, Theatres and Intensive Care Unit. A modern well-equipped trainee's area is available for trainees.A comprehensive anaesthetic service is available for all routine and emergency surgical procedures for in-patients and day-case patients in the following specialties: General surgery and vascular surgery, Urology, Orthopaedic surgery and spinal surgery, Gynaecology and routine and high-risk obstetrics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Dental and Maxillo-Facial Surgery & High-risk anaesthetic assessment clinic and CPET serviceThe appointee will be asked to undertake various duties, these will include: Maintain and promote multi-disciplinary teamwork within the speciality and those associated with the critical care services, Share responsibility with all consultant colleagues for providing evidence based standards of care for all the patients, Take an active part in the formal teaching and practical training & supervision of junior staff. Assume responsibility for professional supervision and management of non-consultant grade medical staff, Monitor junior staff locum arrangements where appropriate, Concern themselves with the professional development, both clinical and personal and of their trainees, Take part in risk management, governance activities and other activities in the directorate & Contribute (in co-operation with the Audit Committee) on a regular basis to the clinical audit process undertaken within the Trust, and where appropriate at a broader regional and national level.
