Job Title: Mechanical Design EngineerLocation: Huddersfield - On-site 4+ days per weekRole Type: Contract - 12 months+Rate: £40.00 - £50.00 per hour - OUTSIDE IR35 Our client, an established engineering consultancy operating in Huddersfield, require an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join their multi-disciplined team. Due to the nature of our clients' work and timescales involved this role would require candidates to obtain active SC Clearance to start. What the role of the Mechanical Design Engineer entails:Some of the main duties of the Mechanical Design Engineer will include:Carry out detail design activities to meet the requirements of design for manufactureHand calculations and preliminary sizing of components, including material selection, gear rating, shaft and bearing analysis, rotor dynamics, other drive system elements including structural components, couplings, lubrication systems, relevant instrumentation and control systemsCAD activities including conceptual design, 3D and 2D modelling. Create component and complex assembly drawings. Drawing and technical documentation checking. BOM and gear data generation and engineering change control processingManufacturing drawings generation with a clear understanding and application of Design for Manufacture principlesCreate deliverable documentation including Manuals, Installation and Maintenance instructions as necessaryConcession/Non-conformance assessment and resolution - including hand calculations as required, coordination with other specialist areas such as stress analysis etc. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to carry out the design activities, investigate and analyse non-conformance reports, develop corrective actions, and implement effective solutions to prevent future occurrences. What experience you need to be the successful Mechanical Design Engineer:Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.5 years or more in an engineering design role/environment involving rotating machineryExperience in heavy engineering industry, power transmission systems, gears and gearboxesAppreciation of bolted joint analysis, shock assessment in relation to geared transmission systemsStrong knowledge of quality management systems and industry standards (e.g., AS9100, ISO 9001)Strong core design skills with first principal methodologiesCandidate should be familiar with structural design practices and methodologies, including hand calculations to support design.Experience in designing mechanical components, parts, assemblies and subassemblies for heavy industry, power transmission systems, gear and Gear boxKnowledge about subsystems that impact the mechanical design / layout o f the design.Proficient in 3D CAD package for both modelling and drawing, ideally Solid EdgeAbility to interpret and create high quality engineering CAD models and manufacturing drawings, including GD&T Due to security requirements these posts are open to SOLE UK NATIONALS ONLY.
