1:1 SEN Support Teacher – Secondary School Purpose of Role To provide personalised teaching and learning support for a designated pupil with Special Educational Needs (SEN), ensuring they can access the curriculum, develop independence, and make progress academically, socially, and emotionally. Key Responsibilities 1:1 Pupil Support Deliver individualised teaching and interventions based on the pupil’s SEN profile and EHCP. Adapt lesson content, resources, and teaching strategies to meet the pupil’s needs. Support the pupil’s access to learning across different subjects and settings. Develop and implement personalised learning plans and behaviour strategies. Promote independence, confidence, and emotional regulation. Classroom & Learning Support Work collaboratively with subject teachers to differentiate work and plan support. Monitor understanding and provide targeted guidance without over-reliance. Encourage positive participation and engagement in class. Support the use of assistive technology or specialised equipment where required. Progress Monitoring Track academic, behavioural, and social progress against targets. Provide regular feedback to teachers, SENCO, and parents when appropriate. Maintain clear records, observations, and evidence of progress. Contribute to EHCP reviews, SEN meetings, and multi-agency work. Safeguarding, Wellbeing & Inclusion Uphold safeguarding responsibilities in line with school policy. Promote inclusion and support the pupil to develop positive peer relationships. Assist with emotional regulation, wellbeing strategies, and resilience-building. Respond appropriately to behavioural challenges using de-escalation techniques. Skills & Experience Experience supporting pupils with SEN in a secondary school setting. Strong understanding of SEND, EHCP processes, and differentiated teaching. Skilled in using intervention strategies relevant to the pupil’s needs (, ASD support, SEMH strategies, literacy/numeracy interventions). Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Ability to build strong, supportive relationships with pupils. Personal Qualities Patient, consistent, and empathetic. Proactive and able to take initiative.
