Job Title: Locum Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedics Location: North Manchester General HospitalDepartment: Trauma & OrthopaedicsGrade: Locum ConsultantReports to: Clinical Lead, T&OContract Type: Locum (fixed-term / ad hoc)Hours: Full-time, 48 hours per week (varied rota including long days, nights, weekends, and nights) Job Summary: North Manchester General Hospital is seeking a motivated and experienced Locum Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedics to join our dynamic team. This role focuses on the management of acute trauma as well as elective orthopaedic cases, supporting both the emergency and elective surgical services. Key Responsibilities: Deliver high-quality, consultant-led trauma and orthopaedic care. Participate fully in the on-call rota, including long days, night shifts, and weekend work. Conduct theatre sessions, outpatient clinics, trauma meetings, and ward rounds. Supervise and train junior doctors and multidisciplinary staff. Engage in departmental audits, clinical governance, and quality improvement initiatives. Contribute to strategic planning and service development within the department. Clinical Duties: Inpatient and emergency trauma management. Orthopaedic elective procedures (if applicable). Regular trauma lists and fracture clinics. Active involvement in teaching, training, and MDT meetings. Example Rota Pattern (Full Shift – 1 in 6): Day Shift Time Type Monday 08:00 – 20:30 Long Day Tuesday 08:00 – 17:00 Standard Day Wednesday 20:00 – 08:30 (Thurs) Night Shift Thursday OFF Rest Day Friday 08:00 – 20:30 Long Day Saturday 08:00 – 20:30 Weekend Long Day Sunday 20:00 – 08:30 (Mon) Weekend Night Shift 48-hour average working week 1 in 6 on-call rota (includes nights and weekends) Flexibility required for cover and rota swaps Person Specification: Essential Desirable Full GMC registration with license to practise FRCS (Tr&Orth) or equivalent Broad T&O experience including trauma surgery NHS locum consultant experience Excellent teamworking and leadership skills Involvement in teaching and audit ALS/ATLS certification Familiarity with Cerner/EPRO system Remuneration: Highly competitive hourly/daily rates (DOE) Weekly payment options Travel and accommodation support considered Contract via agency, bank, or direct engagement To Apply:
