A business that generate truly unique products are looking to hire a Mechanical Design Engineer on a contract basis (outside of IR35) to design a bespoke test rig (special purpose machinery / special purpose equipment design)? If you enjoy working on blank sheet of paper design and solving clients’ problems through liaising with them then this may be the role for you. The rate for this role will be dependent on experience. This role will be largely remote after the initial site visit to take down the machinery requirements and view similar/existing equipment to build you knowledge and understanding of key requirements.  As a Mechanical Design Engineer some of the key responsibilities will include: Meeting the duties of Technical Lead/Design Authority on assigned projects. Being accountable for all aspects of mechanical product design, from concept through to manufacturing support Working with small, multi-disciplined teams and selected 3rd party design agencies, to deliver defined work packages Managing and prioritising personal workloads, to deliver on time, to budget and to specification Being responsible for creating and maintaining technical documentation including mechanical drawings, BOMs and design specifications Liaise with third party manufacturers as required The successful Mechanical Design Engineer will likely have the below qualifications and/or experience: Professional qualification in Mechanical Engineering Highly skilled in 3D CAD Highly proficient with Special Purpose Machinery design Any experience specifically with remote handling or robotic arm technology would be an advantage Proven ability to design robust machinery and see this from conceptual design stage through to commissioning.
