Position: Design Engineer – Heat Tracing Systems Specialist
Location: Sunderland, UK
Job Overview:
We are seeking a collaborative and innovative Design Engineer with expertise in heat tracing systems. This role involves designing systems based on customer specifications, ensuring both client satisfaction and project profitability.
As part of the team, you will analyze requirements from drawings, specifications, and instructions, as well as prepare technical documentation, including isometrics, panelboard and cable schedules, wiring diagrams, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and location plans. You will work on multiple small to medium-sized projects, collaborating with designers, engineers, and project managers to deliver exceptional results using drafting technologies and specialized design software.
Key Responsibilities:
* Review project specifications and documentation to gain a thorough understanding of the scope of work.
* Adhere to project requirements, including quality, schedule, and technical standards.
* Follow established processes and procedures, including project guides, execution plans, and quality frameworks.
* Maintain and organize project design folders.
* Contribute to the development of tools and procedures for global and regional operations.
* Engage with customer representatives to resolve technical issues.
* Create and review technical drawings using AutoCAD, MicroStation, and proprietary software.
* Verify the accuracy of drawings and approve those prepared by other designers.
* Conduct site surveys to gather information for heat tracing design.
Requirements:
* Proficiency in drafting software, including AutoCAD and MicroStation.
* Advanced skills in MS Office.
* Technical knowledge of electricity (Ohm’s Law, voltage, amperage, circuits).
* Familiarity with piping, insulation systems, and components.
* Ability to interpret P&IDs (Piping & Instrument Diagrams).
* Knowledge of codes and standards related to heat tracing (e.g., IEEE 515, IEC/IEEE (phone number removed)-1 NEC).
* Strong problem-solving skills and ability to innovate.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Basic Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical education.
* 3+ years of experience as a Designer or Design Engineer in industries such as petrochemical, oil & gas, renewables, or pharmaceuticals.
* Experience with heat trace design is highly preferred
