Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant (Primary)

Location: South Shields

Salary: £87 - £108 per day (Depending on experience)

Start Date: Immediate

Contract Type: Daily Supply, Long Term

About The Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing tailored support to students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience in a supportive and inclusive educational environment.

Responsibilities Of SEMH Teaching Assistant

  • Support students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs in their academic and personal development.
  • Work closely with teachers and other staff to create a supportive learning environment.
  • Implement individualised support plans and strategies.
  • Assist in managing classroom behaviour and promoting positive interactions.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support as needed.
  • Monitor and report on student progress and well-being.

Requirements Of SEMH Teaching Assistant

  • Prior experience as an SEMH Teaching Assistant or in a similar role.
  • A recognised qualification in supporting children with SEMH needs, such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification will be preferable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Patience, empathy and a genuine passion for supporting young people.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in Social, Emotional and Mental Health support (desirable but not essential).
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
