Principal Urban Designer Job in Manchester, Greater Manchester

Principal Urban Designer job to be a part of a consultancy with an ambitious 3-year growth plan and a robust project pipeline across residential, renewable energy, and community sectors. With a need to expand at all levels - from Intermediate to Principal/ Associate - this Manchester-based role offers a competitive package (37 days total holiday, profit-related bonus scheme, 7% employer pension contribution) and the chance to shape meaningful projects in a team-driven, innovative environment.

With expertise in urban design, planning, and environmental services, they handle impactful projects in sectors like residential, renewable energy, health, and education.

Role & Responsibilities

Develop masterplans for projects of varying sizes, from concept through outline and reserved matters planning applications.

Take a lead role in the management of projects

Working on large-scale masterplans and residential layout design primarily and other complex projects across various sectors

Create strategic documents, such as vision statements and design codes, to guide and protect project development.

Work directly with clients

Collaborate with the Urbanism team and manage small teams, while also working independently.

Required Skills & Experience

Qualifications: Degree, Masters, or Diploma in Urban Design, Architecture, or a related field within the Built Environment.

Possess a minimum of 4 years of UK project experience

Prior experience in private practice, consultancy, or commercial housebuilding; detailed design/RMA experience preferred

Proficiency in CAD software; knowledge of Vector Works and/or SketchUp is a plus

Familiarity with local authority guidelines and planning systems

Self-driven, detail-oriented, with strong communication skills for effective collaboration.
