About the School:
A vibrant and inclusive mainstream secondary school, dedicated to providing an excellent education and nurturing environment for all students. We pride ourselves on offering a supportive and welcoming atmosphere where students can thrive. We are currently looking for an experienced and motivated Head of Year 11 to join our team. This role is non-teaching and focuses on leading the Year 11 cohort, with a particular emphasis on supporting students with special educational needs (SEN) in collaboration with the SEN department.
Role Overview:
The Head of Year 11 will take on a leadership role, responsible for overseeing the pastoral and academic development of the Year 11 cohort. This is a non-teaching position, and the successful candidate will be expected to manage and support the Year 11 tutors and liaise closely with the SEN department to ensure that all students, including those with SEN, are given the support they need to succeed. Previous experience as a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) or in a similar support role is essential, alongside a strong ability to manage teams and coordinate interventions.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Line Management: Lead and manage a team of Year 11 tutors and support staff, ensuring high standards of academic and pastoral care for students. Provide guidance and support to tutors, fostering a positive and inclusive environment.
SEN Support: Work closely with the SEN department to ensure students with special educational needs receive appropriate support. Implement strategies to aid their academic progress and well-being, including tailored interventions and exam preparation.
Pastoral Care: Provide strong pastoral leadership to Year 11 students, supporting their personal development and well-being. Help students manage the pressures of their final year, including exam preparation, stress management, and career planning.
Student Progress Monitoring: Track and monitor the academic and personal progress of Year 11 students. Use data to identify students who may need additional support and coordinate interventions to improve their outcomes.
Parent and Carer Communication: Maintain proactive communication with parents and carers regarding their child's progress, behaviour, and well-being. Organise and lead meetings with parents when necessary to discuss academic or pastoral concerns.
Behaviour and Engagement: Support the promotion of positive behaviour and engagement within the Year 11 cohort, ensuring that students remain motivated and focused during their final year.
Person Specification:
Experience: Previous experience in a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) role or similar educational support position, ideally within a secondary school environment, with a focus on supporting students with special educational needs (SEN).
Leadership Skills: Experience in a leadership or line management capacity is desirable, with the ability to manage a team, motivate staff, and develop the potential of others.
Knowledge of SEN: A solid understanding of special educational needs and experience in supporting students with additional learning needs.
Understanding of the Year 11 Curriculum: Familiarity with the Year 11 curriculum and the pressures associated with preparing students for their final exams and post-16 progression.
Organisational Skills: Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to oversee multiple priorities and coordinate intervention strategies effectively.
Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and parents.
Commitment to Student Success: A passion for supporting all students, including those with SEN, in achieving their full potential and preparing for life after secondary school.
