Job summary Interview Date: 18th December 2024We are looking for a psychology graduate to fulfil a clinical role in Heatherwood, to support the delivery of our psychologically minded service provision.This Assistant Psychologist role presents an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic psychology graduate who is keen to gain experience in order to progress towards applied training in clinical or forensic psychology.
The role involves supporting the development and implementation of PBS; delivering individual and group based psychological intervention programmes; and promoting a culture of care in an environment that is focused on the use of psychological formulation and the principles of recovery and person centred care and education.You will be part of a team of psychologists and a wider clinical service.
You will receive supervision from registered Psychologists within the organisation.The service has established links with local universities.
We host trainee clinical psychologists from the Cardiff and also trainee forensic psychologists on the Cardiff Metropolitan University Training Course in Forensic Psychology.To apply for this role, you must have a psychology degree conferring GBR, and, ideally, previous experience in an assistant psychologist, support worker or similar role.
Main duties of the job Heatherwood Court provides an intermediate step for individuals on a mental health treatment pathway coming from a medium or low secure environment, who need further physical and relational security as well as therapeutic support.Located in countryside close to Cardiff, Heatherwood Court offers up to 47 beds across four single-gender units.Opened in 2008, Heatherwood Court provides care, treatment and rehabilitation for individuals who meet the following criteria:Adults with severe and enduring mental illness requiring a low secure environmentMale and female mentally disordered offenders requiring a low secure environmentWomen with personality disordersAt Heatherwood our focus is on rehabilitation and recovery.
By providing our patients with relationship and life skills, alongside resilience and coping strategies, we promote the emotional stability which can provide the sound foundation needed to make a successful move back into the community.

Job description Job responsibilities To undertake protocol based psychological assessments of clients applying psychological, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client's care.To assist in the formulation and delivery of behavioural support plans involving the psychological treatment and / or management of a client's problems, under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist, in the community.To assist in the coordination and running of therapeutic groups.To assist in the formulation of multi-disciplinary communication following assessment under the supervision of a qualified psychologist.To assist in the development of a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service, across all settings where care takes place.To attend and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings.
Person Specification Qualifications Essential BSc in Psychology with eligibility for GBR with the BPS Experience of working in a health or social care setting, preferably with people who have mental health problems, learning disabilities, neurological / neurodevelopmental disorders.
