The Specialist Children's Community Nursing team comprises of four nursing teams – Child Development Nursing, Special School Nursing, Paediatric Continence Nursing and Childrens Community Nursing team.
The teams offer care to children across Waltham Forest in their homes, in clinic and in Special School settings.
The aim is to provide an excellent standard of Nursing care to enable children to achieve their best possible outcomes.
Main duties of the job The successful candidate will work alongside the existing Paediatric Continence Nurse to begin to take over the service when they leave in March 2025.
The post holder will work as an autonomous practitioner and will lead in the delivery of clinics for children with bladder and bowel issues.
They will utilize a range of specialist skills and experience gained in clinical practice to provide holistic assessments for children with bladder and bowel issues.
Clinical judgement will aid the postholder to formulate a detailed care plan based on these assessments.
They will lead in the development of the Paediatric Continence Service working closely with stakeholders to promote and develop the Service.
Excellent communication skills are essential as well as good knowledge of current Nursing best practice and the ability to work as an effective team member across the Specialist Childrens Nursing Teams as well as the wider Multidisciplinary Team and external agencies.As part of the Specialist Community Nursing Children's Service, we can offer you: Regular clinical and managerial supervisionA programme of in-service training and rotation opportunitiesTraining and development opportunitiesAccess to NELFT Health and Wellbeing team Working for our organisation Probationary PeriodThis post will be subject to a probationary period.

All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.
As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.
The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.High Cost Area Supplement - Outer LondonThis post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,313 to a maximum of £5,436 pro rata for part time).Certificates of SponsorshipAlthough we are a registered sponsor organisation, we are unable to offer sponsorship for all job roles.Please check your eligibility under the UKVI points based system Detailed job description and main responsibilities Key Responsibilities:• To use specialist skills and knowledge of bladder and bowel issues; to support to children, young people and their families in the community setting.• To work as a senior specialist nurse within the Paediatric Bladder and Bowel Care Team supporting the clinical and professional lead in delivering a high-quality paediatric bladder and bowel care service.• To work as a senior specialist nurse within the Specialist Children's Community Nursing Team supporting the delivery of a high-quality paediatric bladder and bowel care service.• To line manage staff within the Paediatric Continence Service.• To attend Senior Management Meetings/QPR/PPSA meetings as required• To provide nurse-led clinics for the treatment and management of childhood continence issues.• To provide a service, demonstrating a sound understanding of issues relating to the identification, assessment, treatment and management of bladder and bowel care needs in children and adolescents.• To maintain a close working relationship with, and support colleagues in Primary Health Care Teams.• Assist in developing the service in relation to relevant benchmarking documents NICE guidance, ensuring the use of best practice, evidence-based care, clinical audit and evaluation of services.• Be a strong patient advocate, ensuring that the care of the children and young people reflect best clinical standards and treat children and adolescents with dignity and respect.• To assist in providing on-going training to meet the educational needs of public health nursing staff supporting children with continence difficulties• To contribute to multi-agency meetings.• To manage and triage referrals coming into the service and have an over-view of all case load and waiting list activity and to be aware of when to re-refer to GP or Tier 3 service if referral is above the clinical skill level of Band 7 Specialist Continence Nurse in Line with NICE Guidelines.• Awareness of Red Flag Continence Issues – require Level 3 management.• To deputies in the absence of the clinical and professional lead at Senior Management Meetings/QPR/PPSA meetings as required• To assist in providing on-going training to meet the educational needs of public health nursing staff supporting children with continence difficulties.• To contribute to multi-agency meetings.Use of AIApplications for this role should be written by the applicant.
