BACKGROUND  A beautiful estate in Hampshire, located within the South Downs National Park, is looking for an experienced joiner and carpenter.  Rotherfield is a progressive mixed farming estate near Alton.  It comprises residential, commercial and agricultural property as well as commercial farming, forestry and environmental management.  We are on a mission to continuously improve our buildings and infrastructure across the Estate, by making thoughtful choices as to how we approach maintenance, refurbishment and repair.
  POSITION  As Joiner you will be working mostly with wood felled from Rotherfield.  This position works alongside the senior carpenter to restore and conserve our heritage woodwork at Rotherfield.  Carpentry at Rotherfield is highly valued and all our work is undertaken with the ambition to create long lasting structures to serve future generations.  This is a full time role working in our fully equipped Joinery Shop on Rotherfield Park producing products to use and integrate into our property portfolio.
  The right candidate should have experience of working with a range of timbers for internal and external joinery, and a background in workshop management and observing all the statutory and legal requirements, particularly in relation to the Health and Safety at Work Act.
  We have started milling timber from our own woodland in the last couple of years, so an understanding of timber milling, storage and management would be useful.
  Duties will include:  Carpentry and joinery of all natures including furniture repairs through to large scale framing.  Procurement of specified timbers both internally selected from the Estate (liaising with the Woodland Team) and externally from the market.  Working to production schedules.
  Carry out carpentry related repairs on Estate properties as and when required  To maintain a safe and compliant workshop, reporting near misses and incidents to a Team Leader and the Office  To ensure machinery and equipment is properly maintained and stored.  Requirements The ideal candidate would meet the following criteria:  Minimum of 8 years carpentry experience.  Experience of traditional methods.  Heritage carpentry experience desirable.  Excellent hand tool skills.  Experience of working independently in a workshop.  An understanding of timber milling, storage and management is desirable.  A team player who is flexible and adaptable and works well under pressure.  Ability to work with the utmost discretion.  Willingness to upskill and share knowledge.  Benefits Great team  Generous pension contributions.  Power tools supplied.  Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
