Job summary We wish to a appoint new Specialist Doctor colleague to join our expandingAnaesthetic services at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (GHNHSFT).
The department has a good history of success at primary and final exams and we are keen to encourage applicants opportunity to be involved in teaching sessions.
Candidates will be expected to have an annual appraisal; there will be support for this and the revalidation process.
Applicants must have full registration with the General Medical Council and should have completed at least six years of full-time training and service in hospitals recognised by the Royal College of Anaesthetists.
FRCA or equivalent diploma would be advantageous but not essential.
The department requires these doctors to be ideally proficient in a broad range of anaesthetic skill and be prepared to enjoy a flexible model of service provision.
This post will be based in Cheltenham or Gloucester, however, these are trust-wide appointments and candidates may sometimes be required to work on other sites, including on-call, within the trust.

*Figures based CCG data on the number of people registered at a GP surgery in Gloucestershire Job description Job responsibilities Clinical Responsibilities Clinical activities will centre around the provision of anaesthesia care presenting for an agreed specialty, for example; trauma, other surgical specialty, obstetrics.
The appointee will be a key link between anaesthesia and surgical services and will possess the necessary inter-personal skills to lead a multidisciplinary team.
The appointee will support the clinical decision making of SAS, junior medical and nursing staff.
As a busy department, working across 2 sites as well as peripheral hospitals, the successful applicant will be required to cover a wide range of specialties.
The expectation would be for the successful applicant to be able to work in all these areas alongside trainees and with the support of consultants.
There will be an out of hours commitment.
Education and Training The introduction of the Gloucestershire Academy for University of Bristol medical students in 2004 means that our department provides learning opportunities including regular teaching sessions for year 4 medical students during their Year 4 COTE/Primary care/Dermatology curriculum unit.
We also teach and train Physician Associate students on attachment from Worcester University and the University of the West of England, Bristol.
There is a weekly medical grand round in which all specialties and individual consultants are expected to participate.
to participate in our departmental undergraduate teaching programmes to participate in postgraduate training and other staff teaching as appropriate to act as Clinical Supervisor (and in agreement with our departmental postgraduate lead as Educational Supervisor) to junior and middle grade medical staff The department has regular teaching on morbidity and mortality cases, journal club and examination teaching which are open to all members of the specialty.
We also hold regular QI meetings which cover a wide scope of topics relevant to our everyday practice Continuing Professional Development We recognise the importance of continuing medical education and actively encourage our department to prioritise professional development.
You will undertake CME / CPD as per College recommendations.
A mentoring scheme for new staff is well established and each new appointee will be appointed a mentor shortly after appointment.
