Job summary We are looking for a part time Phlebotomist withexcellent clinical, communication and service skills to join our friendly NursingTeam.
Main duties of the job Typical dutiesinclude venepuncture, ICE forms, sample handling, and updating patient records.Please see the Job Description for more details.

Confidence in talking to patients with diverse needs is requiredand excellent communication skills are required.
It is essential to be organised,efficient, adaptable, and flexible in a fast-pacedworkingenvironment.Applicantsshould be enthusiastic, professional, and ideally have experience of working ina busy GP surgery using SystmOne.

Job description Job responsibilities The following are the core responsibilities of the Phlebotomist.
Theremay be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will bedependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:Obtaining patient consent for the collectionof a blood samplePerforming venipuncture in accordance withpractice protocolsMaintaining accurate patient records on theclinical IT systemThe correct labelling, packaging and storingof samplesEffective use of the specimen log, resolvingany discrepanciesEnsuring samples are sent to the laboratory ina timely mannerMaintaining an effective liaison with the NHSTrust laboratory staffWorking collaboratively with the nursing team,seeking guidance when necessary for patient related mattersIn addition to the primary responsibilities, the Phlebotomist may berequested to:Participate in practice audit asdirected by the audit leadParticipate in local initiativesto enhance service delivery and patient careSupport and participate inshared learning within the practiceComplete opening and closingprocedures in accordance with the duty rota Person Specification Qualifications Essential Relevant qualification in venepuncture Good standard of general education Experience Essential Experience of working with the general public Experience of working in a healthcare setting Experience of working in a primary care environment Venepuncture Ability to record accurate clinical notes Skills Essential Excellent communication skills (written and oral) Clear, polite telephone manner Effective time management (planning and organising) Ability to work as a team member and autonomously Good interpersonal skills Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure Desirable Competent in the use of MS Office applications Clinical IT system user skills Qualities Essential Polite and confident Flexible and cooperative Motivated High levels of integrity and loyalty Sensitive and empathetic in distressing situations Ability to work under pressure/in stressful situations Effectively able to communicate and understand the needs of the patient Effectively utilise resources Punctual and committed to supporting the team effort Desirable Problem solver with the ability to process information accurately and effectively, interpreting data as required Commitment to ongoing professional development
