Brief Description As an Asset Engineer (Drainage & Lineside) within the wider route's Infrastructure Director team, you will be focussed on drainage & lineside asset management activities in Western route supporting inspection & maintenance through to facilitating the delivery of asset renewals in line with a civils-based supply chain.
You will be part of a strong safety & learning culture, open to new ideas, embrace technology, challenge inefficient processes and provide support to drive data led accurate decisions.
The role, under the direction of the Senior Asset Engineer includes working with our various data sources, data management & interrogation including improving & assuring data quality, data collection, verification and referencing to support inspection & maintenance activities through to renewals programmes.
The role supports the management of risks associated with civils-based drainage & lineside assets, will also include carrying out evaluations and risk assessments, producing remits for intervention works, monitoring trends, and evaluating the effectiveness of delivered works.
Asset focus will be on the civil engineering drainage discipline interfacing with many other asset groups, plus level crossings, fencing & boundary legal requirements and access facilities to railway staff and public interfaces and land and habitat management to our extensive lineside estate.
You will be key to ensuring compliance to Network Rail standards & national legislation and meeting government targets to running a sustainable railway.
The role will involve site-based and office-based activities, working on multiple portfolios from small scale works to liaising and involvement in major multi-discipline projects covering the Paddington to Penzance area.
Railway experience is not essential and you maybe from a highways or local authority asset management or civil engineering design & delivery background with key skills we are looking for to help drive cultural change in the importance of risk management in drainage and lineside assets on the UK's railway networkAbout the role (External)Here are some of the duties your role will include:·Provide systems engineering support to the determination of appropriate engineering maintenance regimes and activity volumes for drainage and lineside assets in accordance with company policies, standards, and specifications.
Providing necessary assistance to determine compliance with suitability and robustness of maintenance regimes.·Provide a comprehensive system engineering support across delivery units as and when required.
Monitor and strive to improve the technical competence of engineers & operatives associated with drainage & lineside activities in the delivery units in line with (NR/L2/CIV/1000/01).·Provide technical support & briefings associated with maintenance engineering in order that the purpose, as well as the content of standards, specification, etc.
is understood.·Review and make recommendations on derogation and non-compliance applications to drainage & lineside systems engineering related standards.·Carry out assurance of asset condition inspection data that will inform data driven decisions and approve recommended works for the renewals work bank.
Support initiatives, as directed, to improve processes, data quality, effectiveness of delivery and strategy.·Support the development of route specific strategic plans including maintenance and renewal activities and asset strategies, providing the prioritised investment work bank.
Support the inclusion of all investment items into appropriate programmes and track through to completion including approval of programme changes·Participate in drainage and lineside engineering activities in support of assurance processes including maintenance audit programmes and engineering verifications.·Monitor the reliability and performance of assets across the route and instigate, participate in the implementation of corrective actions to improve as required.·Contribute to the development and maintenance of route asset management plans for various strategic areas of the route understanding the importance of the railways users and demand.·Participate in investigations and learnings of incidents as required.·Assist in the review and acceptance process for engineering project designs as and when required.·Liaise with community relations, to support the resolution of certain issues impacting on neighbours and outside parties such as large flood events, prolonged issues from poor historic management and boundary and vegetation related issues.What you will bring to the role:··Substantial experience of lineside data management activities from examination and assessment to intervention proposals.·An understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques·Awareness of Construction Design and Management Regulations·Working towards membership of a relevant professional institutionIt's desirable if you have it to help give context to the role:Degree in a relevant subject·Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer·Member of a relevant professional institutionNot sure if you meet all the requirements?
