We are seeking an outstanding individual to contribute to teaching, specifically in the field of Urgent Dental Care and Oral Surgery, but also expected to provide contribution to patient assessment clinics.
The role requires active and enthusiastic commitment to teaching and the delivery of high-quality student-led patient care.

The research groups and laboratories are based in Dorothy Hodgkin Building and the Dental School, facilitatingclose working relationships with clinical researchers and complementary research activity aligned to theMedical School, ensuring a key critical mass and world-leading research quality.We have a successfulstrategy for developing the next generation of clinical academics through formal Integrated Academic &Clinical Training schemes, with researchers working across world-leading Dental and Medical researchteams.Bristol Dental School was the first UK Dental School to hold the Silver Award, and we are proud to continueto hold a Silver Athena Swan award highlighting its positive approach to equal opportunities.We continueto make improvements to working culture and to foster collaboration and team working within our newDental School.We are a welcoming and supportive community, and are undertaking further work toincrease the inclusivity within our School through design of the new building, and other education-relatedactivities such as our curriculum decolonisation project.

Person Specification Experience Essential Knowledge and skills to assess and provide clinical care to patients within the scope of primary care dentistry including routine and surgical dental extractions, extirpation/ restoration of teeth.
A working knowledge of clinical governance and to participate in audit and quality improvement projects.
Ability to prioritise, organise time appropriately and work independently.
Ability to work under pressure and cope with setbacks.
Able to maintain contemporaneous, clear and legible clinical notes and communication.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Broad range of IT skills.
Abilities to provide pastoral support to students and trainees, including signposting to specialist services where appropriate.
Capable of involvement in day-to-day clinical management.
Knowledge of when to refer patients to a Specialist/ Consultant or other team.
Evidence of fitness to practise, including continual professional development and commitment to lifelong learning and potential career development.
Awareness of safeguarding.
Capacity and motivation to take responsibility for own actions and to learn from experience.
Desirable Current clinical practice relevant to primary care dentistry, including Oral Surgery and Urgent Dental Care.
Experience of teaching and training in dentistry.
Ability to organise own learning as demonstrated via professional portfolio.
Publications in peer reviewed journals.
Experience of working with multidisciplinary teams including other dental and medical specialties.
Experience in managing patient complaints.
Familiar with current structure of the Health Service including the commissioning of dental services.
Ability to organise efficient and smooth running of a clinical service.
Presented or published the results of audit and quality improvement reports.
Able to demonstrate evidence within presentations and publications.
An interest and/or knowledge of adult education.
Communication and interpersonal skills Essential Punctual and reliable, with a flexible approach to work Ability to communicate effectively with patients and their relatives/carers, clinical colleagues, support staff and other colleagues Demonstrates inclusivity, respecting other perspectives and treating everyone with respect Can adjust behaviour and language as appropriate to different situations Meets professional health requirements (in line with GDC standards/Good Medical Practice) Aware of the need to ensure their own and staff/ student/ trainee wellbeing Desirable Ability to develop effective working relationships on an individual and multi-professional basis with all levels of staff both within and across divisions Qualifications Essential Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) or equivalent, with a minimum of 4 years post qualification experience Full registration with the United Kingdom General Dental Council (GDC) UK Foundation or Vocational Training (or equivalent) Membership of appropriate Defence Society Desirable Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (, MFDS/MJDF or equivalent) Other relevant postgraduate qualifications (, Postgraduate Certificate/ Diploma in Dental Sedation or Oral Surgery) Higher Degree such as a Masters or Doctorate level qualification (, MSc, PhD) Fellow of the Higher Education Academy or qualification in Teaching and Learning (, TLHP) Prizes, awards or distinctions Other criteria Essential Willingness to travel to and work in other sites necessitated by the role Commitment to Primary Care Dentistry and whole patient care Desirable Ability to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional and national levels.
