Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen fora suitably qualified Medical Technical Officer to join the All Wales Medical Genomics Service with a flexible approach to work for hours per week.
These are permanent, full time posts based at Canolfan Ieychd Genomig Cymru / Wales Genomic Health Centre in Cardiff.

The All Wales Medical Genetics Service (AWMGS) provides a comprehensive clinical genetics and laboratory service clinical genetics services to the 3 million residents of Wales.
Welsh Government and the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee are investing in the All Wales Medical Genomics Service to ensure patient equity across the UK in accessing genetic testing methodologies.
The investment has seen a £10 million investment over a 3 year period to ensure AWMGS stays in the forefront of genomic medicine and develops the best diagnostic genetic services for patients.
The Directorate encourages personal development and you will be expected to take an active part in the appraisal process.
Not only is this a busy and challenging specialty but you would also be joining a friendly, dedicated team in Medical Genetics.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential Relevant science based HND (Level 5 qualification) with significant experience working in a laboratory Knowledge of genetic testing, different cell types and their morphology, mitotic cell phases, chromosome structure and culturing techniques Desirable Knowledge of relevant legislation, such as the Human Tissue Act, Health and Safety at work act, COSHH, Data Protection Act.
Understanding of the requirements of UKAS in a laboratory setting.
Experience Essential Significant laboratory experience and a familiarity with good laboratory practices and aseptic techniques Experience of handling laboratory equipment, such as micropipettes, centrifuges, vortex.
Personal qualities Essential Ability to work well with colleagues at all levels Able to demonstrate flexibility to service needs.
Skills Essential Highly developed laboratory skills for precise and methodical micro-manipulation of clinical samples.
Use of Microsoft Office packages, standard keyboard skills.
Attention to detail and record keeping; in a busy environment.
Professional and courteous manner.
Desirable Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh
