Job summary We are a small, friendly team of experienced screeners, and an exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, enthusiastic person to come and join us.
?We provide the service to approximately4,500 babies per year born at the Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley and South Ribble Hospital.
We also offer screening at outpatient clinics across Preston and Chorley for babies up to the age of 12 weeks.
Newborn hearing screening is performed to identify permanent, significant hearing impairment in newborn babies Early identification can reduce the impact on the development of language, speech, and communication skills.?
The role is flexible, working between 7 AM - 4 PM, as our service provides 7-day-a-week coverage.
Therefore, regular weekends and bank holidays are required, paid at an enhanced rate ?.
The team is based at Royal Preston Hospital, with a requirement to work at outpatient clinics at Chorley and South Ribble Hospital.
A full driving licence and access to a car ?
are essential.?
You will be required to undertake a Level 3 Diploma for Health Screeners to become a qualified Newborn Hearing Screener.
This is a national qualification completed by non-professionally regulated staff.
The Diploma involves a range of written, oral, and practical assessments and must be completed within 12 months of enrolment.

Main duties of the job ?

Available Positions:1 Part-time (27 hours/week): 7 AM - 4 PM2 Part-time (15 hours/week): 7 AM - 4 PMThese are not fixed days as shifts are arranged on a rota basis.
Identify all newborn babies requiring screening and ensure the Newborn Hearing Screen is offered.

To promote the principles of Family Friendly Hearing Services, ensuring effective communication with parents throughout the screening process.
?
To communicate effectively with other members of the Newborn Hearing Screening team, including screeners, supervisor, administrator, and NHSP manager.
?
Obtain informed consent as per national and local protocols.
?
Carry out hearing screening within the maternity units (including Transitional Care and Neonatal Intensive Care Units) and outpatient clinics, using specialised equipment, as per national and local protocols and procedures.

To collate and accurately record administrative and clinical information, including test results, on the record sheets and NHSP IT system Smart4Hearing.
?
To use Badgernet to accurately record hearing screen results in the patient notes.
?
Make outpatient appointments by telephone and confirm using text messages.
?

To liaise with maternity, neonatal, and audiology services to ensure families receive a seamless screening and follow-up service.

Person Specification Qualifications & Education Essential GCSE's in English and Maths grade C or above OR Level 2 functional skills in literacy and numeracy Must be willing to undertake and complete Level 3 Diploma for Health Screeners ( Newborn Hearing qualification) and attend External Competency Assessmen Desirable Level 3 Diploma for Health Screeners ( Newborn Hearing Qualification) ECDL qualification Knowledge & Experience Essential Team Player Experience of Microsoft packages and use of Word/Excel and email Understanding of concept and application of confidentiality, patient confidentiality, and information governance Desirable Knowledge of the newborn hearing screening programme for England and Wales Recent experience as a Newborn Hearing Screener in the NHS
