Job summary Band 7 Anaesthetic and Recovery leadWorcestershire Acute Hospital NHSTrust has recently undertaken a multimillion-pound investment in the operatingtheatres at the Alexandra Hospital.Phase 1 involved the addition of 2 brand new theatres.
Following the expansion, the Alexandra Hospital currentlyhas 9 theatres including 6 with UCV and 2 dedicated recovery areas.
The operating department inthe Alexandra Hospital currently provides both an elective and 24-houremergency surgery service for adults across a range of surgical specialties.
Avacancy has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated and professional band 7Senior Theatre practitioner to lead and manage the Anaesthetic and Recoveryteam on a full-time basis.Our ideal candidate will be highlymotivated and fully conversant with all aspects of current theatre practices.
Excellentcommunication skills and a flexible approach are an essential requirement forthis post as well as participation in programmes of additional surgicalactivity.You will have experience of anaesthetics andrecovery.
Mentorship skills are an essential element due to the numbers andvariety of student learners we support.
The post holder will also haveleadership and problem-solving skills, will assist in annual appraisals, stockand budget control.
As part of the theatre management team, you willco-ordinate the theatre department and deputise for Theatre Matrons whenrequired.

actively participate in theco-ordination of the theatre department, ensuring the best use of availablestaff to provide safe patient care on a 24 hour basisTo meet with your team leaders on aregular basis both as a group and individually and to keep records ofdiscussionsTo take all measures to ensuresafety and report all accidents/incidents/near misses on the datix system To take responsibility for theinvestigation of incidences using the datix process and to ensure that learningis shared and embedded in clinical practice To lead risk management within ownarea of responsibility, participating in the identification analysis of riskTo have an understanding of thetheatre budget, ensuring efficient and effective utilisation of resourcesTo be conversant with trustpolicies, procedures and to participate in the development of policies/procedureswhere appropriateTo ensure that staff attendance is appropriatelymanaged where it falls below trust expectationsTo participate in the selection andrecruitment of staffTo ensure that your team appraisalsare effective and done in a timely fashion in order to identify training needsto develop both staff and the theatre serviceTo be responsible for the equipmentin own specialty, ensuring that it is used safely and effectively, kept inworking order and properly maintainedEducation and TrainingTo be aware current and most up to dateresearch and developments to ensure high standards of practise within theatresand to maintaina wide knowledge of current health / surgical / peri-operative issues To facilitate teamwork and a noblame culture that supports staff to learn and developTo assist and participate in theinduction programme for newly appointed staffTo maintain a learning environmentwhere the training and development needs of individuals can be met, supportingstaff to develop clinical and managerial skillsTo ensure all staff that aredirectly managed maintain high levels of mandatory training percentage throughattending appropriate training or the completion of e-learning To participate in the development oftraining programmes in accordance with identified needs and in partnership withthe education facilitator for theatresProfessionalTo maintain a professional attitudeat all times, developing the role of the theatre practitioner in the bestinterest of the patient and in accordance with the trainingTo encourage staff to participate inclinical supervisionTo counsel staff in relation to personaland professional mattersTo perform other duties as directedby theatre matron / senior theatre matronGeneral duties: Participate inthe on-call rota or out of hours duties as required for emergency surgery To provideshort-term cover for colleagues during periods of leave To adhere tothe trusts IT policies regarding email and internet usageTo ensure that all trust standards are maintainedand monitored in order to improve the quality of care to all whom come into contactwith services provided
