Job summary The Consultant Spinal AHP is a recognised expert within the spinal field demonstrating expert levels of clinical judgement, knowledge and experience.
The consultant provides clinical leadership, drives innovation, leads research, facilitates cross boundary working and directs the strategic direction of spinal services to ensure the provision of high-quality patient centred care Main duties of the job The post holder will be a clinical expert in the field of spinal pain, working alongside surgical and physiotherapy colleagues to provide clinical leadership.
To strategically develop the non-surgical management of spinal patients across the OUH and interact with BOB ICS to ensure local implementation of relevant national policy in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
To provide expert clinical practice in the advanced assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients who may have highly complex and/or chronic presentations.
To undertake a significant clinical caseload to a high professional standard using specialist knowledge from theoretical and practical experience and to support other practitioners on aTrust-wide consultancy basis for complex cases.
To be actively involved in providing on-going education and training to a wide range of staff working across primary and secondary care.
To be at the forefront of developing practice through promoting an evidence-based culture as well as disseminating research findings.
To undertake research, audit and evaluation of clinical practice in relation to the management of spinal patients.

Job description Job responsibilities Expert Clinical Practice Be an expert practitioner in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and case management of those requiring spinal assessment.
To assess highly complex cases using a range of assessment/diagnostic methods and reach valid, reliable and comprehensive patient and client-centered conclusions appropriate to needs, context and culture.
To undertake a detailed physical and psychosocial assessment of complex patients by using investigative and analytical skills and expert clinical reasoning in order to establish a diagnosis and implement an appropriate treatment plan.
To practice at an advanced level working at the boundaries of advanced clinical practice; including referral for and interpretation of investigations (MRI scans, X rays, Pathology tests).
To produce individual treatment plans and interventions for patients with highly complex needs who require in-depth diagnosis.

Leadership To be part of the senior leadership team of the physiotherapy service acting as a resource to support the management of spinal pain alongside the leads for Optimise pain rehabilitation service and Out-Patient Physiotherapy lead.
Act as a national leader in own specific field, creating opportunities to represent the organisation and ensuring the organisation is aware of national changes to healthcare.
To be recognised and utilized both locally and Nationally as an expert clinical resource.
Actively participate in negotiating and forming an agreed job plan, updated annually that clearly describes roles and responsibilities, including the proportion of time attributed to direct clinical care and supporting professional activities.
Education and teaching The post holder will: Direct and oversee the design and implementation of education and training that results in the consistent delivery of spinal pain education that is person-centred, clinically and cost effective, and is supported by evidence-based practice.
Through role modelling, mentorship, clinical supervision, as well as education and facilitation, support the development of the multidisciplinary teams role to ensure it evolves within the context of clinical and organisational developments.
Teach multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary groups within the Trust, and within local higher education institutes on a range of subjects relating to the specialist field of spinal pain.
Research and Audit The post holder will: Work closely with the Physiotherapy Research Unit to develop and implement a research workstream strategy resulting in an increase in research activity and wider awareness and participation in research projects Be aware of current and planned research and its implications for practice, service organisation and governance and to promote evidence informed practice.
