Glasgow, United Kingdom Estendio Full time

About Estendio We are a mission-driven accessibility start-up dedicated to transforming the way the 1 billion disabled and neurodivergent people in our world work, learn and live.
Since launching our first product, Present Pal, back in 2018, Estendio has empowered students across over 150 universities in the UK and US to excel in their presentations and communication skills, growing to a team of 17.
Building on this success, we recently launched our second product, Tailo, an AI powered reading platform designed to create a tailored reading experience for every mind.
Our mission is to become the world's leading accessibility company, and you will be pivotal in our scaling journey.
This is a rare opportunity for a technology leader who wants to make a lasting, positive impact on the world.
As our Chief Technology Officer (CTO), you'll have the chance to lead with vision, shaping our technical strategy and the lives of millions of people who rely on accessible tools to unlock their full potential.
You'll be joining Estendio at a pivotal moment, where we have the foundation of a proven product, the momentum of Tailo's launch, and an ambitious roadmap that can redefine accessibility worldwide.
We're seeking a CTO who is passionate about tech-for-good and who sees beyond just product innovation.
We're looking for someone who can envision—and build—the future of accessible technology.
You'll have the influence and freedom to make decisions that will drive change, set new benchmarks in the industry, and ensure Estendio remains a global leader in accessibility.
Role Overview As CTO, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing our technical vision.
You will work collaboratively with the CEO, leadership, and engineering teams to develop and drive a forward-thinking technology strategy that positions Estendio as a global player in accessibility.
Beyond technical oversight, you'll act as a strategic partner to the CEO, contributing to company-wide goals with an entrepreneurial scale-up mindset and a focus on long-term impact.
With immediate plans to scale our engineering team from 7 to 20 within the next year—and ambitions to scale exponentially in the years ahead, you will be instrumental in establishing robust structures, processes, and scalable systems that will support this growth and foster innovation and collaboration at every level.
Your role will be to build not just a team, but a culture of technical excellence and future-focused development, ensuring Estendio remains on the cutting edge of AI-powered accessibility solutions.
We are seeking an outstanding leader with deep experience in scaling technical teams, a keen eye for strategic innovation, and a proactive approach to staying ahead of industry trends.
If you're an exceptional technical visionary with an entrepreneurial drive and a passion for building technology that transforms lives, we want you to help us make inclusivity the standard—not the exception.
Key Responsibilities Technical Strategy & Execution Develop and steer the implementation of Estendio's technology roadmap, aligning with business objectives and long-term goals.
Identify emerging technologies that could enhance our products and services in collaboration with the CEO and product director.
AI & Innovation Drive the exploration and integration of cutting-edge technologies, particularly in AI and machine learning, ensuring Estendio remains at the forefront of accessibility solutions.
Business Strategy Work closely with the CEO to influence business strategy based on key technical considerations and risks, ensuring that innovative tech solutions are developed in line with business needs.
Team Leadership & Development Lead, mentor, and support a high-performing engineering team.
Provide guidance, support, and growth opportunities for our engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative culture.
Scaling Operations Design and implement scalable structures and processes to support the anticipated team growth from 7 to 20 engineers within the next year and beyond whilst ensuring optimal performance, productivity, and morale.
Collaboration & Cross-Functional Team Work collaboratively with the VP of Engineering, Director of Product, CEO, and other leadership team members to align on strategic goals and deliver innovative solutions.
Act as a bridge between technology and other business functions.
Process Optimisation Develop and refine best practices, technical workflows, and agile methodologies to drive efficiency and streamline engineering processes, ensuring consistency and quality across teams.
Technical Oversight & Deployment Oversee system architecture, product deployment, and ensure security, scalability, and stability in all technical systems and platforms.
Key Requirements Experience Extensive experience in technology leadership at a senior level as a key person in a high-growth tech environment.
Proven record of focusing on high-impact strategic actions that drive growth with an entrepreneurial mindset.
Experience scaling engineering teams is essential, as well as a strong track record in shaping technical strategy and operational growth in a tech company whilst staying ahead of technical trends.
Technical Expertise Deep understanding of system architecture, deployment strategies, and agile development methodologies.
Experience driving AI innovation and bringing AI and ML products to market is essential.
Leadership & Management Demonstrated experience managing, mentoring, and growing engineering teams.
Skilled at developing a team culture that values collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
Strategic Vision Ability to translate a visionary technical strategy into actionable, measurable goals and a track record of pushing boundaries and creating products that redefine expectations within the tech industry.
