Locum Consultant Gastroenterologist

Job summary The Trust is seeking to appoint a Locum Consultant Gastroenterologist to continue the development of the Gastroenterology and Endoscopy services at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The post is offered on a 12 month fixed term basis.Applications from individuals with a specialist interest in any area of Gastroenterology would be welcomedApplicants must have full registration with the GMC including a License to Practice.The posts are offered on a full-time basis; however, the Trust would welcome discussion with individuals looking for a more flexible working pattern to support a different work life balance.
Main duties of the job The post is offered at 10 PA but under the terms of the 2003 Consultant Contract, candidates who wish to conduct private practice would be required to offer an additional programmed activity.
The 10 PA job plan is split into 9 PAs of Direct Clinical Care and 1 PA of Supporting Professional Activity per week as follows: 9 PAs for Direct Clinical Care (DCC) including outpatient clinics, endoscopy and admin 1 PA for SPA includingone core SPA is for private continuing professional development, appraisal and personal KPIs.
Each Consultant will participate in a rolling rota.
Week 1 will be the Consultant of the Week (COW) which will have no elective commitments but will have 7 PAs of DCC for ward rounds and non-elective referrals (upper GI Bleed and inpatient); 2 PA for admin and 1 SPA.
Weeks 2 & 3 include fixed sessions for ward rounds, endoscopy and clinics.
Weeks 4 - 16 are not ward based and therefore have fixed sessions for clinics and endoscopy only.

Person Specification Ability Essential Recognised ability to work within and provide leadership to the multidisciplinary team Effective communicator Excellent interpersonal skills Commitment to clinical risk management and the implementation of clinical governance Experience Essential Appropriate Gastroenterology experience Appropriate experience in upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and colonoscopy Desirable JAG Certification Qualifications Essential Full GMC registration and LTP MBBS or equivalent Desirable Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: CESR European Community Rights Subspecialist training IBD/Hepatology Audit and Research Essential Relevant experience in clinical audit Relevant experience in research and evidence of publications Ability to develop evidence based practice Desirable Research leading to MD or PhD Teaching and Education Essential Evidence to allow accreditation as a Consultant Clinical Supervisor for trainee doctors with the GMC Desirable Recognised teaching skills course Special interest in role development and staff training Membership of relevant medical associations/learned societies Other Essential High ethical / professional standards Ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff at all levels of the organisation Meets professional health requirements (in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice) Full driving licence
